Just finished watching The Departed, Little Miss Sunshine, Babel, Syriana and Transamerica on DVD.
I did watch the oscar show including Martin Scorsese receiving his oscar for the departed. I did watch the chinese original of this movie. This movie is not the best of Martin and the movies like Little Miss Sunshine had a far superior plot and were better made.
Martin Scorsese had made better movies than the Departed and he did not deserve an Oscar for this movie. The movie looked like a Desi movie made by Ram Gopal Varma with the whole gang of AB, Dutt, Kumar Gaurav, Jackie Shroff without any focus. May be they gave the award for his past performance(s) than for this movie. I prefer he should be awarded the Oscar for Life Time Achievement than for this movie.
The movies made on smaller budget but better made like Babel or Syriana should have been awarded the Oscar. Definitely Babel, Syriana or even Little Miss Sunshine were better candidate for the Oscar than The Departed. The plot of Syriana was outstanding and Clooney did an outstanding job in a low key performance. There is a lesson for everyone of us in Syriana !.
Whoever wants to know about the advantage of a Canadian Passport than an American Passport should watch Syriana. Oh! Canada.
May be this is the way the Oscars work - Networking(Old Boys network - Francis Ford Coppola. George Lucas and Steven Speilberg giving the award).

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

1.The scene when he enters the elevator along with the Amir who gets assasinated at the end.
2.The scene where he enters Beirut, Lebanon when he goes to meet the hezabollah.
The moral of the story is that you have a chance of escaping with your life when you are caught in the other side of the world with a Canadian passport than an American passport. Which again is reaffirmed by the recent survey where US along with Israel and Iran as one of the most hated countries while Canada and Japan are the most liked.

I'm surprised people liked Babel so much. The links between the three storylines were tenuous at best, I thought.
Linking the Moroccan (or was some other country?) story with the Japanese based on the rifle seemed pretty weak.
The Japanses actress put up a great performance though. I was hoping she'd win supporting actress.
Somewhat unrelated....I couldn't believe Pitt managed a Golden Globe nomination....his acting was pedestrian. Brought back memories of Titanic winning best picture when having movies like LA Confidential.
i saw casino royale and Departed...awesome movies. some hindi movies are nice too..like i omkara..not much ppl like it but i loved the movie and same as salaam namaste...but my all tim fav hindi movie is Joh jeeta wahi sikandar.
