After I came back from desh, I was attending a course called working in teams. This was to teach us, the federal govt staff, how to work in teams. YEs, lot of people need this training. We had a group project where teams of 5-6 work on the task and how fast and smart they do, was the goal (assembling a toy helicopterwith more than 100 pieces). The team that finished last, obviously had some problems. Two of them, women managers from different departments, had issues. Both appeared to have strong personality (and may be control freaks). Not only they could not get along in the team, they failed to direct/help others therefore coming last with pathetic results.

Worst, after the completion, there was a 10 min break and these two women took it outside the room. One is a white (in her 40s) and the other oriental, born and brought up in Canada 9in her late 30s). Both are managers in different fed govt departments. I was appalled at their shouting match. Both would not yield or stop. In the end, the course instructor had to intervene. God save their staff and division/directorate.

When I think back, we desis make good team players. There are always some weird folks, no doubt. Overall, IMO, desis can get along with others in a team environment.

DIO,
This is very very subjective.
In my opinion, I find desi's, not good team players at all. They act good team members only when they are under the fear to perform. I have seen it from Malaysia, Saudi to the Americas.
On another note, In our office, We had 2 Desi girls. One was Dumb and comes to the office just to do some work for 8 hrs. and leave while the other one was good in her work. These 2 were allowed to work together and they started fighting in a day.
The same dumb girl was later told to leave office. She immediately told the boss that she was ready to work for any amount of money (even less than the min. wage). So her Salary was reduced to min. wage. Now i wonder if my Italian employer would think if all desi's were like her.
Just my experiences. Not a policy set in stone.
However, I would like to see different poersonal views of how Desi's are good or bad team players.

What makes you think the girl whom you repeatedly called "Dumb" will not get a chance to read this post one or other day.

Having discussed your profession, car, office location, employer, colleagues, etc., etc.., etc., etc., so far in many threads, wouldn't you think she will know this and "Payback" UNLESS OR OTHERWISE ITS ALL FICTIONAL.

Though there isn't blatant offense, still this scratches the ethics of a public forum and your friends around you may feel bit skeptical over all. Not to see this as nitpicking.

I'll say -
Team with Like Minded people is more likely to Succeed.
Team with Energy & Passion is more likely to Succeed.
Team with Single Eye on Goal is more likely to Succeed.
Team with Younger Players who fears nothing but just wants to work in good healthy environment is more likely to Succeed. Experienced Players are required but just to guide young ones and to shield those young ones from all Politics.

Asking two Managers from Two Different Department to work together is bound to generate some friction (who knows history between those two). Government Managers can no way be Yard Stick.

Managers from two Different Companies all together - who does not have any previous interaction with each other ... might just work out.

Desi or Non-Desi ... I dont see difference in trend or Working Relationship. Yes, I have people in 'Union' or with Previous 'Union' experience are generally No Good in Team.
