Hi Friends,

Yesterday I got this mail forwarded to me by one of my friends back home, he is currently working for an insurance company. He went to the immigration agency to get some info on canadian immigration and the manager there assured him that they will be able to get his file processed faster by arranging for a HRDC approved job offer as Asst Manager in a 7/11 store in Alberta. They even promised him that he will be able to enter canada with this work permit and then apply for permanent residency after reaching here. For this they made him pay Rs 25,000.00 as non refundable registration fee, the total fee they are demanding is 3 lakhs. He contacted me after paying the registration fees, as I am not that familiar with the process of getting work permits or hrdc approved job offers I could not give a clear answer to his questions. It will be a great favour if senior members on this forum could give some advice on whether it is possible to get a work permit as an Asst Manager in a 7/11 store and whether hrdc will approve such a job offer.

Do what you want but dont pay them for any services as they can do nothing for you before or after landing all they do is post your mail and receive it for you...I wish i could tell all concerned in India and bring the number of people using their services to zero.

I am very much agree with these paricular words, and this implement to most of the immigrant consultants. Moreover this is the fact that they can't do anything in it.. except to file the case, submit documents provided by you, and send and received the mails of your behalf, that it.

Though I am a firm opposer of immigration agent service, I have spoken to many people who came through them. I would say that 100% of those who end up in $10 jobs complain about them. About 75 % of those who land up in decent jobs (as a result of their luck) compliment them for their services. Even though I told them that they lost about Rs. 3 Lakhs for just doing postal service, Many of those who praise them say that they took them from the airport, lodged them (of course for a high fee) and gave them seminars and job search tips. However, if you are applying for PR through them, then it is 100% waste to retain their services in this day of the internet. There were times where getting the high commisions address ,sitting in TN was a herculan task( This was before 1996). I even went to their local office in Chennai posing myself to be a potential client and asked for the address , which they refused to give.
Now, with regard to workpermits, It is an easy way to enter into Canada and there is less waiting time than waiting for PR. So in case a Software professional wants to come to Canada under the guise of a 7/11 asst. manager , then they (and other cheating firms like them) are the only ones who can help you to get a work permit. The cost is high and the returns are a gamble. If you are a professional , with a profession which is not in demand in Canada (like a Architectural Draftsman, Civil Engr) etc., then it is not worth as you will not get any better job. An asst. manager in 7-11 (read as helper, Cleaner, front store employee) will get you max. $10-$12 an hour. You canot even live with this money in Canada. So donot even think of being able to save any money to pay off your debt. I know that they allows you to work some other job while being on WP to 7/11( they have some internal arrangement) but it is a waste.

Conclusion : It is not worth coming by Wp through an agency with the cost involved.
Just my views. You may or maynot acept it.

Hi,

it looks very weired ,I had worked for 7-11 for 4 years in vancouver .They are genrally promoted within store ,they hardly hire anybody from outside store for manager and Asst.manager.Moreover It looks suspecious as company like 7-11 looking for asst manager outside from canada. As mentioned by TK average salary is 12-14 $ max depend upon experience with same work as regular associate ,( actually they have to work every weekend ). I have no idea about situation in Alberta ( in BC all store own by company). There are lot's of desi are manager ,may be they have some type of understanding with this firm.

In Alberta 7/11 and other fast food chains are not getting people to work for them as everyone wants to work in the oilfield companies, that is why they are looking outside of Alberta and Canada for recruitment.

They even offer 15 $ for full time night shift employees , but only problem is that in Alberta to survive 15 $ wages are not enough due to Oil fired inflation.
