Hello All,
I have attended 6-7 interviews for different jobs in technology.
All of them have asked for references. They have not offered me job.
They need it before that.
I would like to know, I am new to canada and have not got any job yet,how can I get References?
You can have references from your home country or whereever you worked. Your references do not necessary to be your boss/supervisor etc, you can have references from your clients, your co-workers etc.
Just make sure before you give anyone's name as a reference to talk to them and get a permission.
Good Luck

GG is right but your work related reference and your upline reference such as supervisor/boss will help you better then other references.

A recruiter once informed me that out of 2 references required , ggenerally one should be a manager .

I have never understood the logic of getting a reference from the manager. Now, your boss knows that you are looking out. What IF the company decides not to offer you a job? You are now in a very difficult position.
Also, while I do believe most Canadian bosses are good people, what if your boss doesn't give you the best recommendation?
This practice seems very dated; trust the Canadian marketplace to be sticking with it.
If those of you who have been through this could give your perspective, it would help all of us.
The original poster never said abt reference from Manager/Supervisor. If u r not asked specifically, why bother.
When I ask for references, I put myself in the candidate's position. I have never and will not ask for references from the Managers. I may be a candidate for a job and how do I tell my Manager to give a reference?
IMO, asking reference from the candidate's Manager is a high handed mentality with a perverted mind.
