This kind of killing is done mostly to avoid having to pay a dowry down the line. So even though the reasons may appear to be financial, the root cause is not poverty, but the dowry system and "cultural prejudices" of such people.
P.S. The intention of this reply is not a pick a fight with anyone, but just to have a discussion. Also, I am having a very slow monday
the government should educate those parents. Nowadays girls and boys alike have the same right to make an earning. Education plays a big role.I feel sad for those parents too

Yes Education is the key. Tell me how many people you know in your family/friends/itself who ( your parents) did not take any dowry from girls family.
Don't give stupid accuse that we did not ask but girls family gave themselves.
I know lot of people (specially from AP) in US/India who got 50 lakh cash, car, gold, land like 1 crore marriage. All these guys are engineer and working in IT. Most of them are from good family too. There must be bunch of people in this site in same boat.
My cousins got married and got full household stuff with car even they have all at their homes and they are keeping their dowry stuff at our home bes. they don't have place to keep everything double in tiny Delhi apartments.
Where is our education playing role?
(My marriage expense 2 lakh total even lots of things happen against social status to keep everybody happy.)
The poor people kill their girls because once the girls become young they are more prone to exploitation then the boys.

You know you are a desi when ........ You spew forth the virtues of India, but don't want to live there...............You've never had a tanning salon membership
rahul_singh23 - you are asking me this question, how many of my family / parents took dowry but for ur kind information, i am not from pakistan/india/bangladesh/srilanka/middle east, where dowry plays a big role. I had never encounter any of my family member or friends asking dowry - I heard the word DOWRY only by watching movies and newspaper. Chilled up Rahul. The main cause of female child killer is Dowry and should be abolished completely

Sorry... Couldn't resist poking my nose in..
First question: Who are we to tell them how to lead their lives? Every civilization / culture has values which may be different from ours and may be considered bad/abhorrent/despicable/(insert your word here). Killing baby girls is THEIR decision. The majority of the people who kill their baby girls live in abject poverty , for them letting the girl live may seem like too harsh a punishment to give to the little kid.
Second Question: When is the last time you SACRIFICED something of value to support your beliefs? When you believe in something and do NOTHING when somebody acts against that belief what is the value of your belief? If you consider yourself powerless to change the world then why waste time on beliefs?
Let the firefight begin!
