Hello CD's,

I needed your valuable advice on whether mobile phone purchased from Dubai (Nokia E70) will work in Canada. I checked Nokia's Canada website and they seem to have very few models (and resonably 'old' ones) only listed? There is a note which says that other models may not be supported?

Does anybody have experience of using Dubai purchased phones with Rogers/Fido in Canada. I doen't know whether to sell this here or bring with me?

If it's a GSM phone with a Sim Card it should work no problem with the Rogers network. However, the phone should be unlocked for it to work.

I have a Nokia E61 from Finland that works fine. I am with Fido.

In terms of mobile hardware, Canada is a third world country compared to Asia (and even Europe).

Don't worry..that model will work:cheers:

Hello,

The phone needs to be quad band for it to work here.

The basic 2 options available

1. A plan : for which you will pay approximately $33. + tax Which usually is on contract for 2-3 yrs and the phone comes with it.

2. Pay as you go: You can activate a SIM card which can be used in your mobile and will need to re-charge everytime its getting over or monthly.

* I would say option 1 is more feasible initially.

My phone (Seimens) got from Dubai, is working with Rogers Pay-as you go. Had paid initially an activation fee of 50/- when purchasing the SIM card.

Hello

Sorry, it can be Triband or Quad band.

Which I am sure it will be.

Thanks -

check this site for the frequency used for GSM cell phones in Canada ( you can check the frequency used by the carriers world over )

http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/cou_ca.shtml
( All of them use GSM 1900 )
Rogers has both 850 and 1900 ....

now your phone E70 Nokia is using 900, 1800 and 1900 so you are good with this phone in Canada as long as it is unlocked ....
http://mea.nokia.com/A4204291

some additional info ...
there are four frequencies used by GSM phones world over 900/1800 and 850/1900 ...

900/1800 both are used in europe and asia ...
850/1900 are used in North America ( americans have to be different than Europeans :) ) ....

Enjoy !!!
