Hi folks in Halifax,

I have a friend who has just got a job with Air Canada Jazz at Halifax Airport and is liekly to land there on or around 2nd April.

Could anyone in Halifax please let me know of some place that he can rent/share. This gentleman is very very humble and polite person (and a good chef too). He is single and has been in Canada for just about a month and a half. It is important that this place be near the Airport or be connected to the airport with public transport.

Please PM me or send me an email.

Thanks for your assistance & help.

Rajeev, The Halifax airport is quite far from the city in Enfield, NS(about a 40 min drive) and I don't believe using public transport to commute to the airport will be an option. I think your friend will find it very difficult to find any shared accomodation near the airport. His best bet will be to stay in Halifax or Dartmouth.

Thank you Yellowknife with the information.

Is it possible for my friend to seek your guidance over the phone. The problem would be bying the car immediately. He is going to be on probation for 3 months and thus a bit hesitant in investing in it. There aren't any apartments or homes around airport?

Please let me know your phone number via email at

Thanks once again.

Theres a bus AIRPORTER which commutes b/w Hlfx & Airport (google airporter halifax)

For first timers to the city it is best to stay somewhere temporarily in initial 1- 2 weeks and in this time search for a suitable location .

Kijiji , Craiglist and Chronicle Herald are 3 websites which will give our friend currently available accomodations and after checkign the map also in google he can judge which place he prefers to stay .He should be able to call at the available numbers and fix an accomodation on a 'test basis' for 1~2 weeks .

There s a thread on Halifax which provides residential information besides other things . Use the CD search .

Unfortunately, I don't believe the Airporter would be suitable as a daily commuting option to the airport. As far as I remember it costs about $20 for a round trip and that too pick up points are mostly limited to downtown Halifax/Dartmouth hotels. So spending $20 daily I don't think is doable. I don't know if they have any monthly options.

Yeah! and then pay $250 a month on Insurance + repair charges if his car breaks down on the way !
I had a friend who bought a Honda Accord 1989 model for $800. With it he never could use the highway and he was paying $264 a month insurance with ING for a year after which he tranfered to TD Bank for $180. The only time he went out of town was to Oakville (using lakeshore drive) to buy some cheap sale stuff advertised.
A little more common sense would have enabled him to buy a cheap but good car and he could have saved a lot of money in the long run.
The main gist of the story was when he sold this car to a desi for $850 ( this individual has left Canada for good 3 years after purchasing the car)
