Hi,
Here's my case history. I am an IT professional with 10+ yr experience from Bombay , India currently in Toronto on Wk-1 visa for 3 mth training. The present job then requires me to work extensively in US for about a year for our company clients for which i have 10 year b1 visa but my entire team is based in my company's toronto office. I may be required to travel between US & toronto.
I am faced with a dilemma to file for immigration or not because :
1)My friends who moved here 5 yrs back, want me to make most of my opportunity now that i am here till 2 weeks more and they want me to file from here itself than from india as it would be much faster.
Is this true?
2)I am 31, married , with 2 yr old son. I can take chance of staying abroad for 2 or 3 years as my son is young but i am not looking to settle down in canada or in US long term . This is purely for professional career growth and to bring some financial stability for my family. I already have my own house in Mumbai and want to be based there in long run . But having a Canadian PR card and dual citizen ship will certainly boost my career opportunities in my current company and for my future career growth, as there are chances , I would be made an employee of the current office here in Toronto. Also , my status as PR of canada , will give me more opportunities and more financial growth if i happen to work in US , than compared to H1B or L1 visa jobs where you are at risk of renewing your visa and dont know when you will be sent back..
To summarize, it is better to work as a Canadian citizen than a temporary worker from India. Also , a canadian PR status will be helpful to my son when he grows up and wants to pursue better education or seeks better jobs. He will have a choice which I did not have..
All said an done , this entire thing will take at least 2 years if I decide to file for immigration. Is this (and the money involved of course) all worth it ??
I would appreciate if you can give me honest advise.
Thanks n Regards,
Rags2Riches

---- YES.

--- No. Cdn PR status DOES NOT give you any advantage if you are planning to work in the US. You will still need H1b/L1 status. The only advantage is, you can come back to Canada (if you are still a PR) in case you lose your job, rather than going back to India.
Considering the contradiction (above) to the two points you have made, it is upto you to decide its worth. Also you spoke about the opportunities for your kid if he grows up here. But at the same time, you said you plan to move back to India and you came here just for your career growth. Therefore, this point (or so called advantage) also is not applicable.
