Lets share how you r controlling your sugar level,BP

8 years ago I was declared Type 2 diabetic . I used to be in the range of 78 kg while the standard weight for my height is 64 kg. My sugar levels, fasting were 400( 22) units. at that time I was living in outside India.
Immediately I called my father, a doctor in India for his opinion and to consult his friends . He told me not to use any medicines even if prescribed ,and advised to change the life style ASAP.
Mean while my GP also prescribed diet , exercises etc for two weeks , so that he could prescribe the dosage of medicine based on the sugar levels after two weeks .
My sugar levels have become normal 110 ( 6) after two weeks . Guess how many km I ran in two weeks to burn out my sugar levels.

Normally when one’s sugar levels are more than 180 , the extra sugar will pass out thru urine. In my case there were no sugar in urine even at 400 . that means, as I was told that I have no way but to burn out this sugar by physical activity.,

I test my sugar levels time to time, and my observations in the last 8 years are

1.my sugar levels are directly proportional to my weight,. When ever I cross my weight 68/70kgs my sugar levels reach 200 (10).
2.I observe my belly / mid section, also proportional to my sugar levels.
3.Every cola adds 5-10 units of fasting sugar
4. Greasy food adds more calories than sugar
5.I take Zero sugar, is the main reason for my low sugar levels. i take 5 cups of coffee /day
6.30 minutes /5days/week exercise. ( what ever the workout ,You must sweat whole body )
7. i don’t eat rice/ i eat full grains / whole wheat rotis/plenty salads/ less meet.

Type II diabetes is due to our lifestyle/ food /lake of activity/ stress in the job etc. it is more due to indiscipline in our every day life/lack of control on eating.
If you have a will, you can defeat it, but under the supervision of a Doctor.

I think I was wrong earlier about the milk. It is low GI (as someone mentioned earlier)..and wont affect your BS level that much. However I have found that the higher fat content I take in..the less spike I notice in the blood sugar.

we also eat more whole grain foods and salads however I dont eat "diet' or "low fat" foods which tend to have wheat added to make them low fat. This adds carbs.

I do recommend if you are taking Cola..take Diet cola only. Regular coke will be dangerous.

Less fat the milk has, better it is. But if you are a vegeterian or eat meat very infrequently, then whole milk is okay - about 2 or 3 cups a day - not more than that.

Try including one Grapefruit in your diet every day. Its excellent for bringing high BP and sugar level down and also helps reduce weight.

One caution though: If on medication viz Metmorphin, better to check with your doctor before you start Grapefruit. It supposedly increases the effect of medicine by multiple times

Never over eat / or indulge in parties etc.

do brisk walking for about 30 mins each day

eat foods with low Glycemic Index

Reduce salt intake ( this is more important since more people tend to focus on sugar reduction)
