Does anyone have an idea of what alternatives there are to transfer money to the UAE, besides a cable transfer?
Cable transfer seems like a very expensive proposition - upwards of $75 just for the cable. This is not including the percentage of the money that has to be transferred.
I don't need this to go immediately, within 2 weeks or so is fine.
Any ideas?
I used to do wire transfer. The fees from TD were a fixed 30$ irrespective of the amount. It took about a week.
I recently tried paypal to a charity in india and it worked fine...took about a week or 2. However I dont remember the fees charged by paypal which was extracted from the sent amount. I remember it being less than the 30$ i usually spend

Addition: the transfers I do is to India not UAE for where the charges maybe different.

Yes, I used to transfer money from US to Canada. Rates are better than banks and the process is quick and easy.
Not quite sure how does this work Dubai.

Thanks jake and freakoutguy for your suggestions. I did take a look at them and they certainly have less fees than cable transfer by banks.
