NEW DELHI: A BJP tribal MP from Gujarat was on Wednesday arrested at the international airport here on charges including impersonation after he allegedly tried to take a woman and a teenaged boy to Canada on the diplomatic passports of his wife and son.
46-year-old Babubhai Katara, a second-term MP from Dahod (St), was detained by the police following a complaint from immigration officials when he came along with Paramjeet Kaur and her son Amarjeet, who were posing as his wife Sharadaben and son Rajesh, to take an Air India flight to Toronto on Wednesday morning.
The fraud was detected at the boarding gate by the Air India staff who objected that the photographs did not match with the passport. They informed the immigration officials who detained the three including the MP, who is a commerce graduate.
After a verbal commotion, CISF personnel swung into action and detained the three for questioning and informed the local police.
Following investigation, police booked the three under various sections of the IPC relating to forgery, cheating and criminal conspiracy.
The BJP MP is from the Dohad constituency in Gujarat and was elected to 13th Lok Sabha in 1999.
From 1999-2000, he was a member of the Committee on Urban and Rural Development.
In 2004, he was re-elected to 14 Lok Sabha (2nd term) as a member of the Committee on Science and Technology, Environment and Forests.

And it because of these *%&^$&((*%$##%^&* Indians do not easily get visitors visas. Visitor visa for my mother was denied recently. CHC thinks all Indians want to come to Canada and just stay put. Incidents like these only confirm to their belief.
On a side note US embassy is giving out 10 years multiple entry visas for visitors. Smart move when one thinks about it. Indians are usually not big trouble makers and have loads of money to spend when visiting abroad.

NEW DELHI: BJP MP Babubhai Katara, who was on Thursday remanded to ten days in police custody, had taken a woman abroad on his wife's diplomatic passport once earlier out of his two visits to foreign countries, police said.
The 46-year-old MP, who was arrested on Wednesday he was about to board an Air India flight to Toronto along with a woman and a teenaged boy on the passports of his wife and son, kept mum when a local court asked him whether he had taken anybody with him on his two earlier visits.
Additional Chief metropolitan magistrate Kamini Lau gave police ten days custody of the MP after the investigating officer said he had taken a woman on his wife's passport to a foreign country and that they need time to unravel the case.
Police plan to take the MP to several places in Punjab and Gujarat as part of its investigation. It has also found out that some of the arrival entries in his wife's passport were forged.
Police said they have seized three passports belonging to his family members from the MP from Dahod and did not rule out the possibility of some of these being forged.
The lawmaker said he had travelled to the UK and Canada in the past. The court remanded Paramjeet Kaur, who was arrested for trying to travel on Katara's wife's passport, to four days in police custody.
The boy, who was also arrested on Wednesday, was not her son. The teenager was produced in a juvenile court, which remanded him to 14 days judicial custody.
1.This guy would have gone through immigration if BJP was in power at the center(or) if the promised cash was transferred to the Indian immigration this time. Remember this guy was caught by Indian immigration and not by the Canadian immigration.
2.The problem is not with India the problem is with the Canadian immigration/visa policy. They need to introduce stamping on the passport both ways both inward and at exit.
3.There was a huge SCANDAL in the HONG KONG - Canadian High Commission during the Glory days of China taking over Hong Kong when many a Canadian High Commission officials made solid CASH by admitting the HK mafia who are still part of the Vancouver drug mafia. Hence the blame is not only with the Indians but partly(major part) with Canadian Government).
4.If you go the Gerrard Street you can buy your way through the Canadian immigration from any part of this globe including Timbuktu. Remember some time ago the Immigration Judge wanted SEX in exchange for immigration from a lady in GTA. If a honored/revered Judge a highest standing official in the land of this great Canada who has sworn to defend/uphold/enforce the highest law of the land can sell this for a piece of as# ! what do you expect from your own honorable MLA/MP. You can get a SIN card, Drivers License Degree Certificate, Citizenship Card, OHIP card in Ontario if you pay the right amount money to the right people. I know a Hindu Lady from Gujarat who applied for Refugee status in this country and obtained her Landed Immigrant status in 2 years here in Mississauga. If you do not trust me you can always ask another CD who is low key and his avatar is THIRU18 (and/or) CIR57.Is there is a big problem in India and particular to Gujarat where in Hindus can apply for refugee status in Canada. You figure it out !.
5.In regards to your particular case you should talk to your local MP and ask him to write to the CHC in New Delhi. Recently a friend of mine had applied for his parents visa and they had been asked to take their Medicals. Their visas were rejected after the medicals with the reason given that they do not have sufficient ties to India. To which he spoke to his MP and he also wrote a stinker to the CHC asking them why asked for the Medicals as they would have anyhow rejected the visa. He also wrote to them about the whole costs involved which I think runs to tens of thousands of rupees. You know what their parents got their visas stamped(single entry)after this episode. The reason for all this is that the Canadian High Commission makes money out of this visa process and each time it rejects a case it earns around CAD $125.
6.Do not blame India(ns) for this as you have not played the game right. In Canada there are two ways one the straight way the other you know by now.
You go to a bank ask for mortgage they will give whole lot of shit and will give you approval for a measely amount. You then go to a mortgage broker he will get an approval for more amount than you asked for. Why ?. You go and ask for a credit card you'll not get it, you go and meet a Desi financial consultant in a bank and he will get you a card processed with in minutes. How ?. Hence anything related to Canada you should not work from start to destination but you should from destination and retrace the route from the end to start. Please read in between lines.
