Which system is good for children returning from Canada (or USA)? Any input or feedback is much appreciated.

You might also want to consider the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, which is being offered by many newly set up schools in India. This would put the kids at par( and even over) the CBSE/ICSE/ICS programs and will be a a better choice if the children want to return to NA for university.

Thx folks for the replies. Very few schools in south india offer IB program and I dont know if the kids want to come back to Canada. Too early to predict. Will start looking for CBSE first and keep the IB option open, depending on the school admission process.

In South India you go by the school initially and then at senior secondary school level you move to the local board.

In Chennai some of the good schools are Padma Seshadri, SBOA, Anna Adarsh to name a few. As the entrance exams have been cancelled and the admission for higher education is based on school entrance exams the chances of scoring higher marks is more in State Boards than CBSE or ICSE.
Hence I would prepare the child on a good school and then move to state board for higher education in Tamil Nadu.

For Karnataka in Bangalore I found some good schools like National Public School(donation of Rs.40K for LKG) or some good Convent schools or even Kendriyavidyalaya. They then could move to the state board schools/colleges for higher education.

I did the following recently. I purchased and obtained by SEAMAIL the Tamil Nadu State board text books, CBSE text books for the grades of 9,10,11 and 12. I compared it to the level used in Peel Region in Mississauga. What children are studying in 12th grade in Mississauga the children are studying in 8/9th grade in Chennai in both state board and also much higher in CBSE. The Killer is in Math and Science. I can make an open challenge that if a normal child in 12th grade in Chennai and Mississauga are tested in Math and Science on the same paper the Chennai Kid will kill the mississauga child in both the subjects.

I also showed the books to my childs 8th grade class teacher and he was really impressed by the text books both state board and CBSE (the CBSE books in preference) and he himself admitted that the PEEL region levels were lower based on the information contained in the text books.

Hence please do not prepare by the Canadian standards but go by the Indian Standards that to by Tamil Nadu or Andhra Pradesh mathematics curriculum. As I have seen students from across India the mathematical level in Karnataka is slightly lower than Andhra or Tamil Nadu.

My 2 Rupees is to put the child in a CBSE program initially but have alternate plans for State Board at higher levels.

This is my humble opinion/personal opinion about ICSE. I might be totally wrong about it also.

If you typically see the kind of students studying in ICSE you will find that they are typically kids from top echelon of the society. Really rich kids study in this program. They typically study here will go abroad for a BA or BBA in top notch Management programs and will pay their way through. They will get back to India and take over as the next MD of the company owned by their family. Hence the syllabus is more broad based and with second language like French/German and others it makes a well rounded person but when it comes to technical education I have my own second guesses about the syllabus or the drive of the student to get into the program. If I'm not wrong Doon School is also an ICSE where people like Rajiv Gandhi, Amitabh and others went to study. Most of the residential convents in OOTY, Kodaikanal are also ICSE.

I prefer CBSE as it is more balanced for the needs of a middle class student and also their career aspiration if needed to be in technical fields.
