I had a different experience recently when I bought a Hyundai Van. I first negotiated with a un-referred dealer, telling him, I am there to finalise the deal that day itself. I even gave him my credit card to charge the deposit once the papers are signed. But all the time I kept low balling the price and noted the point where he was willing to let me walk off. This was the bottom in my opinion. I also made a copy of the pricing he offered (usually they dont give, but the salesman I dealt with got carried away with the eagerness to conclude the deal that day). Finally, I walked away saying I need to bring my wife in to select the color and will return the next day. The following day, I visited another dealer, with a reference from a friend who has recently bought a car from there. We introduced to the sales man but asked to meet the manager right away if they wanted to conclude the deal fast. Also, fortunately for me, the model and color I was looking for was thier show room demo which they were looking to sell. As usual the manager started with his MSRP and lot of sales talk. I cut him abruptly and told him, I have done my home work and low balled him with a price slightly less than the price I already had - they made a lot of fuss, but after being adamant for about 1/2 hr, he finally agreed to my price. We signed the deal.
I came home and signed up with carcost canada to double check my price, - guess what, my price was $1200 less than dealer invoice on car cost report...
Maybe, car cost do not have extensive reports/prices for Hyundai models...I still have 2 reports available, if anybody need them for free.

Chandresh,
FYI. If you are purchasing a used Honda Civic, say 2003 or after, then make sure it is Honda certified. That way you will get a set of Honda warranties on your car. Generally Honda has 7 year/100000 miles power-transmission coverage.

I believe Honda offers better warranties in the US compared to Canada. I think my Honda Accord was covered for 5 years/60,000 km. Newer warranties in Canada are better than before (more because of the competetion) but still far less than in the US.

Hi Hiren,
When buying my car in April, I took the membership for CarCostCanada and was excited to look at their invoice price for the car I was looking for. Just when I was about to place an order for the car at agreed price with the dealership, I learn about Automobile Protection Association (www.apa.ca) and I beame its member....which led me to save even more since their invoice price was 3000 lower than CarCostCanada. I negotiated again and brought the purchase price further down by $2500. Gives you an idea on how much you are being ripped in Canada. The model of the car I purchased here, is over $10000 cheaper in the US.
Go figure!
