which areas have good bargain shoppingin Montreal?
heard about some stores on Chabanel st. which are open on Saturday and have good bargains.
Does anyone have any experience dealing with them?
Its the garment hq of montreal. You'll find many garment importers there. Yes lots of clothes at bargain prices. Quite a few desis there too.

Secondly, heard that Saturday is a good day for bargain shopping.
Any particular time during the day to go there?
What about the timings? Trying to find list of stores located there on the internet but could not.

I've never been there by metro but it should be around the jeantalon, acadie metro stations. Not sure though. The place lies between stlaurent and chabanel & lacadie and chabanel.
They have sales from thursday(even before) on, but saturday is the busiest time. Not sure about timings...after 10 should be good.
These are not the retail stores you are used to but the labels are the ones you find in the retail stores. A lot of the importers (who supply clothing and accessories to big retailers in Canada and US...majority of garment industry in canada is montreal based) get rid of the sample pieces and stock lots at this place. Smaller retailers come, from places like TO, for their inventory too.
These are building numbers and you'll find the sales at the first 2 levels and even mezzanine of these buildings
99 Chabanel -biggest factory outlet buildings in the area
other shops at 111, 125, 225, 333, 433, and 555 Chabanel.
You will not miss it once you are there.

Which are the good areas and which are areas to avoid in Downtown Montreal?
Would like to know about good bad areas not just in terms of moving around but also to look for hotels to stay.
How about area called latin Quarter close to Berri-Quam metro center?
Heard that is close to almost everything if one stay close to Berri-Quam subway? is that true?

Cannot help you much with hotels/motels since I've never had the need to look for one here.
There are no 'bad areas' as such. Use your common sense though. If you see an isolated alley and 4 characters within, shooting up...dont go asking to bum a cigarette
. Seriously, just use the normal precautions one would use in any big city. Berri-Quam subway is fine and close to all the major areas downtown, especially if you are coming down for the jazz fest or the 'just for laughs' gigs.You'll also be close to st-catherines street and st-laurent, st-denis which is famous for the night life apart from the festivals.

You are one senior desi whom i have never seen use the "SEARCH" option in the Charcha prior to any posting.

You should search in the Charcha for answers to many of your other queries. Remember that many senior CD members (who are active) really donot like to be writing the same things again and again.
