Dell-USA v/s Dell Canada,
There's lot of price differences in the same model at these two websites.
I am really confused or I may not know the rules.
Can we, in canada(canadian address) buy from Dell-USA online, as it is cheap and currency conversion benefit,
If no, then what's the other option to take the benefits?
If yes, is there any other implication in terms of customs, warranties, deliveries etc.
Thanks
I compared Vostro 1500 from DELL at Canadian and US site. The price is the same but look at what they are selling to Canadians....Celeron M, 120 GB Hard Drive, 1 GB RAM compared to Intel Duo Core, 160GB hard drive, 2 GB RAM.
This sucks!

Dell US online shop will not allow you to buy if you try to enter a Canadian address. The only way is, if you have a friend in US, put his/her adress and ship it to him/her and either collect it when you go there or ask your friend to ship it through USPS. Other courier will charge hefty brokerage fees.
Cheers

Mumbai Maazi Ladki ...
Also make sure Dell US will ship to PO boxes, if thats what CBi is offering.
Last time I checked, Dell won't ship to PO boxes due to fraudulant claims (of non-receipt)..

How should we rate Gateway laptops as compared to Sony and Toshiba ?
Which of the following combinations would give better performance
Pentium dual core 2330 + 2 GB RAM (1MB L2 cache )
Celeron core 2 duo 5250 + 1 GB RAM (2MB L2 cache )
Also I read in some Yahoo answers that if the sender in US marks the package as 'used' or 'gift' customs does not charge on that .

Fido.
Personally, I would not have any problem buying a Gateway....I think their quality is in line with the other generic makers.
Sony tries to position themselves as a premium vendor and charge higher prices. I don't think they offer a good value proposition.
When I was looking for a laptop I was biased against Toshiba because their hard drives are not as robust as Seagate or Fujitsu. Haven't heard much regarding their overall build quality...
Regarding specs below, my preference would be for the Pentium (don't like Celerons) and more RAM. I think RAM gives the biggest bang for your buck. I think Celerons have limitations like not being able to hibernate....not sure of this, you'd have to investigate.
Oh, HDD RPM speed is also a HUGE factor. If possible, avoid 4200 RPM drive and get the 5400s. 7200 is even better, but more for enthusiasts. I have worked with 4200 and 5400 HDDs, and the difference is noticeable.
