For the 100 bucks more you get a C2D processor. Also, the important thing to note is the Vostro 1400 & 1500 series have a magnesium alloy frame so they are built very sturdy. Not so for the Vostr0 1000, btw.

It's a smaller screen than the Acer. It's also ugly as sin, so it's more of personal choices rather than specs.

Any idea about problem in Dell laptops for DC Power Jack?? I had a bad experience with Compaq/HP for this problem. what laptop ( Brand) has this problem solved to a great extent.

As of now Sony is also selling a Vaio 15 in C2D or 2330 for CAD 600/- @ Best Buy .

I will check out the Dell as recommended by Alexm and decide .

I was surprised that the Acer model (CAD 500) was out of stock across Canada in 48 hours @ Staples !! And that they had priced it at at least USD 150/- below anywhere in the US ..... learnt that they adopt this strategy only when they have very few pieces and want to get rid of the stock.

Wished to post a feedback .

I am quite satisfied with my ACER Aspire 5720-4663 . Thats an Intel T2330 pentium dual core processor , 1GB RAM , 160GB SATA , WI FI , DVD + RW .

I backed up Vista for a later date and loaded XP SP2 and it goes like vrooom .
