I'm getting to talk to and meet a whole lot of people who are in the process or who have recently moved to India from North America. This is quite rapid from USA while this is getting significant from Canada.

The single most issue which is cropping up while moving or one year from the move is their Children education. Most of the time the Children are finding the method of schooling, the level of education, the quality of competition to be very overwhelming and revolting with their parents and asking them to take them back to USA/Canada. Many times the parents are unable to plan the move they are unable to get admission in the school of their choice as schools run from April to April in India while it is September to June here.

There have been cases from our own Mississauga where when children were moved to India and when exams were administered in India the schools turned around and said that they could admit the child a cool 2 classes below based on the entrance test. This is another issue you need to prepare yourself. The other most important difference comes up in the way the children react to their teachers. In India the children are trained to obey and not to ask questions while here in Canada the children are trained to express themselves and address their teachers as Mrs.Hair or Ms.Carrington and when they do it in India like Mrs.Meena the teachers who are not used to are taken back.

Hence if you are planning to be a R2I start your process with your children and prepare them first even by taking to them India one year before and prepare them for the transition if not you'll find out like what happend to one of acquintance.

He was a Senior Manager in USA in IT and he had a nice home with two cars. He has two children in classes of 3 and 4 grades. When he got a top position in WIPRO, Bangalore at Rs.3.5 Lakhs per month with chauffeur driven car and other perks he sold his home and relocated to Bangalore. Once his children started school in Bangalore they found things tough going and they revolted to their parents that they will not go to school in India. This person had to pack up from Bangalore and relocate to the Wipro facility outside Boston while taking a pay cut and also losing seniority in the position and taking one step demotion.

Hence if you plan to be a R2I start the process with your children and if they are young it is much better to adapt.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....

"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

One of the mistakes parents do is not getting their children get ready for schooling in India. They need to take them, say every year, to India for two months during summer holidays and make them see things and understand. But what the parents do is to just take the kids, put them in school if admitted, without any preparations. Again some of the NRI kids have the "I am from USA/Canada" attitude. That wont cut in India. Also there are number of unrecognized "international schools" in Bangalore. The word international is bloody misinterpreted. Some of the teachers dont have the proper education for teaching. Some of them are parents of the kids who act as teachers. In the end all of the students have to take the CET. Whether they study in international schools or not makes no difference in CET.
