Hi Guys,

I am looking for info on the average car insurance in Toronto and/or Brampton..

I checked out quotes online for a really old honda civic and i am getting around 250$ pm... with over 6 years US driving history

In the US i had a brand new Sports Car and never paid over 2200 in NJ and LA...

The insurance rates are pretty high in Ontario. I was in a similar situation last year. What I found was it is better to go to local mortgage brokers and get insurance. Looks for any possible discounts that you can get; through your employer, organizations etc.

Best of Luck !

Ash

Try TD Insurance. I got a good quote for a second hand car with out any driving history in Canada. Just search the net, call them and ask for a quote. But try some other companies beforehand so that you can compare them with TD.

Try personal group, statfarm and certis also.
For personal group you require someone who is a member of that group (or an employee of the company which is on the list of personal) You need to have their first / last name, their car type handy for the quote.

Just want to know one important thing from forum

Everytime u take quotation from different companies for Car insurance,
does that go to Credit Bureau.
As I know or all companies say, it will be reported to Credit Bureau
So if u start taking quotation from say 3-4 companies that means everyone
will check or report to Credit Bureau

So just clarification from experts

Corruption at high level. A few years back Ontario decided to privatize insurance. The rules for determining insurance rates were discussed by govt-private companies and everyone knows that the then premier Mike Harris made a lot of money.

CIVIC is on the most stolen car list in Canada. The insurance will be very high. Heck the insurance for a similar accord will be lower than CVIC.
Go to the icbc website. If you search around there is a pdf with ratings of all cars for the last 10 years and their ratings as far as insurance is concerned, you can go with a car with lower ratings.

Tip: 2000-2003 Sunfire/Cavalier/Minivan anything 4dr with auto transmission or 1997-2000 Corolla/Accord/Camry/Sentra/Maxima etc
Also go with 3rd party insurance.
Add your codo/home insurance and it will bring your premium down.
Even if you have the money dont buy a newer car. Buy a car with max 6-7k tax in and insure it 3rd party. Your insurance will go down by a decent percentage in the second year.
If you have US experience then statefarm else TD is among the cheapest
Dont go to RBC they will rip you off

No, Did they ask you your SIN number when you asked for quote? They need SIN number to do a credit check.
