I disagree that Orkut is not useful. I have found tons of my past classmates/ schoolmates/ friends since my OP.
In fact, I typed "Architect+L&T Chennai" and i got around 20 people who worked/ are working in L&T Chennai. I found that in that 10 were in the Gulf and now 5 people have promised to get me a job there. It is a great networking site (that is if you are into networking). I am sure that it will be a boon to people who are in IT (since they would have many computer sauvy friends and lot of job opening at the places that their friends work in).
The site is also very user friendly, fast and the picture loading speed and clarity of pictures is great.

i;ve gotten in touch with so many friends with these sites. its a pretty quick way to get back to them. they are also good for killing time. at the end of the day, it depends on how you use them.

I am in IT and love networking. But I like the other ways to get in touch with people, e.g. personally meeting them in office parties, conferences, bar-be-ques, tournaments, sports events etc. But as I mentioned in my previous post - that's ME.

What happens if they are located far away from the GTA. How do you network with those catagory of people?

Just beware of what you put up there on such social sites, coz it is there for the world at large to see. And yeah, the web never forgets and you don't want to be a sitting target for "identity theft".

There have been atleast a couple of incidences of murder mysteries being solved, thanks to Orkut......
