Hi, I have a question about a specific scenario and will appreciate it if anybody who has been in a similar situation can share their experience.
My Mum has a single entry Canadian visa that expires in October. She is currently in the US and is visiting me for a month in August. She would however like to return for a longer visit sometime in October again from the U.S. My specific questions are
a. I have been told that the 'single entry' criteria is irrelevant if the travel is between USA and Canada to she can re-enter Canada without a multiple entry visa. Is this assumption correct?
b. When she enters Canada she will get a stamp for a duration of 6 months so the visa expiry date doesn't really matter. Is this assumption correct?
c. Can I apply for a visa extension and hope to receive with relative ease?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Your mum has to enter Canada before the expiry of the visa and from the day that she enters Canada, the visa is valid for 6 month. Mostly the boder guards (by land) just stamp the entry date, which means that she is allowed to be in Canada for 6 months from that date. Within the expiry day, she is allowed multiple entry / exit to Canada /USA only.
You can apply for the extension of the visa for another 6 months.
There have been threads which has discussed this particular case in the "Charcha". Please use the SEARCH option to find it.
Good luck.

-- Correct, as long as the visa is not expired (before the expiry date of the visa)

-- The duration is decided by the immigration officer. Usually, they give 6 months. But they have the authority to give less than 6 months.

-- Yes, if all your documents are in order and the immigration history of the applicant is clean.
