According to Canadian law, Is it possible that an employer informs you on a friday evening that you are being fired and you don't need to come to work on monday? Or employer has to inform you in a couple of months (sometime) in advance so that you can start finding another job? Or any other relief so that you can spend a little time before job.
Well, just asking for future purposes. Not fired toll now...
You are confusing between Firing and layoff.
Lay off is common in NA. The employer can tell you to leave the job in a minute's notice. But the normal notice period is 2 weeks (if you are on payroll). So if he lays you off today then he will have to give you 2 weeks salary + experience certificate. You canot do anything about it as lng as he either gives you 2 weeks notice or 2 weeks salary.
Contract positions can be terminated at anytime unless you have signed a contract otherwise.
Firing on the other hand is very complicated. People say that he has to give you 2 warnings and then only the 3 rd. time he can fire you. All the 2 warnings + the firing would have to be well documented by the employer. Most of the employers will not go through this hassle (except when you run off the job, your ROE will state that you have eithet quit or fired) and will give you layoff with 2 weeks salary / 2 weeks notice.
Welcome to North America.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
Be happy about hiring or firing. If some one is fired there will be 2 to 3 min meeting and the employer will hand over a termination letter, HRDC letter, severnce pay and finally a GOOD LUCK GREETINGS.

What is the difference between firing & layoff ?
I was under the impression that both are same....as losing your job & getting 2 weeks notice or salary in either case.
It is like Separation and Divorce

Which is spearation (as in without paper work?) & which is divorce (as in legal?)
Layoff is separation and Divorce is firing.
If there is no work for the employer then they will lay off their employess and when the employer are busy they will hire back laid employees on the same roll and same wages. Firing is for cause. Let me put in this way; Lay off is two way and firing is one way.
