Affidavit by central government through Archeological Survey Of India about non existence of lord Rama. This issue has taken a lot of tense as chakkajam in several cities of India. Later on Government take a uturn as Sonia ordered a probe in the issue on study of ASI. I think the whole course of events looks like a political stunt or really Setusamudram project is viable?

Setusamudram is a viable project. It would cut down the distance travelled by large ships considerably. Having said that, the way central government has handled this has been far from satisfactory. Especially the affadavit given by ASI was tottaly uncalled for, it does not have to contest the existance of Rama but had to show that the bridge was not man made. I hope better sense prevails and this project goes ahead without politics getting in the way.

All Knowledgable Puttoo has certified the project as viable. However, one prominent expert has dissented. I believe that this is corrupt Madmohan's brain child. See the link. In very concise and clear terms the project has been denounced. I believe that Congress will still go ahead and mire the country in debt for few crores bribe.

Dissention for developmental projects is not new. Every time a developmental project is launched there are people talking about environmental damage or economic feasibilty or something else. The point is where do we draw a line. This project is going to reduce the travel time from east coast of India to the west coast, for me that is an issue to look into.
Another is that right now Colombo is a major hub (port)in South Asia. They are handling almost the same amount of cargo as Mumbai port is, why is that? India is such a big economy and Sri Lanka in terms of trade is nothing compared to it. But its geographical position gives it this advantage. So this project gives India a chance to develop Tuticorn port as a regional hub.
Of course i am no expert but this is what i can make of this project.
As for making money(corruption), it is would have been easier for Congress to allocate this money for some "free food" scheme for poor. That way they would have made money and also got votes.

As there are pros and cons of each and every project. There has been lot of debate going over this project but on the contrarary to the post by nightmare this project was originally put on a paper in 2002 and at that time Manmohan was not in power.
Anyway, but interesting point against this project is such that many scientists have accepted that this project was like a wall for southern India (especially Kerala)at the time of Tsunami in Dec 2004. This bridge levelled the effect of tsunami and the effect distributed mainly to Shreelanka and south east of Tamilnadu. For many it is the bridge of god who saved thousands of life during Tsunami.
The point in favour of project is that it is cost effective for transportation and also for the development of port and it also facilitates for fishery in that region
