I visited 'Bombay's Chutney' on Dundas & Walker's Line in Burlington. Food was good. Service was with smiles. Food was like authentic Punjabi home made food. Try it once. Go on a weekday in the lunch hour (if you have the luxury of doing so) and the crowd shall be minimal.
We started cooking North Indian and South Indian food most of the time at home we are loving it.
We still eat outside sometime but its not as frequent as we use to and I think part of the problem is that if you eat frequently outside then you don't enjoy evenif the food is tasty.
Keep eating outside guys. I don't want our fellow Indian Brothers to loose business.

Desi Lion
Food here is lil too North Indianish ... I mean, creamy & hence lil sweet.
I am not a big fan of indian food here. Regular restaurant food is for Stomach. Fill it Forget it.
For Tongue it's mostly kind of Junk/Street Food that I like to eat. That food is only available in Amchi Mumbai And I miss that most along with Yokos. That reminds me, Any Sizzlers place here?
Lately I have started going to Thai/Viet - which is not bad, Spicier than some Indian Restaurants.
Last weekend, we been to "The Nilgiris" on Markham Rd Scarborough. Good Stuff. Idly/Chutney reminded me of Anna on Bicycle back home in mumbai.

Mumbai Maazi Ladki ...
Dunno the reason and and many won't agree, but the whole experience of eating out in India is way more fun.
And there's a difference in taste without question. My mom thinks its mainly owing to the vegetables, the giant tomatoes and onions just don't stack up in flavor to the tiny ones we get in India. Spices make a big difference too, the ones we get here aren't the same as the ones available in India.
As well, the amount of choice and innovation in food over there is staggering. Everytime I visit, there's always some items on the menu I don't recognize. Unlike here, where the menus are pretty much photocopies of eachother across restaurants. And if you're vegetarian like I am, good luck finding something different!
With the influx of a good mix of immigrants from all over India now, there's definitely more choice than there was 5 years ago. Hopefully that will continue, I'm sick of the stereotypical "north indian" buffets where everything floats in a pool of oil.

Are you there?
You must all visit Vancouver. There are tons of Indian Restaurants that are pretty good and the food is simply delicious. But, as everyone pointed out - there's nothing like 'Ghar Ka Khana'. I am sure you all must agree with me that, for an Indian immigrant there's no substitute of Indian food anywhere in the world. Pizza, Burger, Hotdogs - naaah! woh baat nahin hey yaar....
Forget outside food. I find that home food too does not taste the same over here. Mainly because of the quality of vegetables. When my wife cooks beans and lentils the taste is not all that different. But fresh veggies and the difference comes out. Even for parathas - because of the quality of flour.
