Dear Friends,

I am being called frequently by a consultant who is asking me around 6 laks for processing my work permit. I am bedazzeled and cant afford to pay such amount. After reading the messages from this forum from our desi brothers and sisters. I think god has saved me from that consultant.

Following is my profile and skill sets:

Total experience in IT industry: 4.5+ years
Good knowledge of Linux, C, C++, Java, Network Programming, Secure Programming.
Knowledge of Security protocols and have worked on Kerberos Authentication Protocol, PKI, OpenSSL Crypto API and GSS API.
Good knowledge of Cryptographic Primitives.
Java and C++, Object Oriented Programming.
Configuration Management, Continuus - working knowledge
LDAP and Basic working knowledge of Active Directory.
Web development using PHP and MySQL.
SAP ABAP (Currently learning and doing a course - no experience on this).
Administration and maintenance of Linux Servers.
Good written and oral communications skills. and Comprehensive problem solving abilities and interacting with customer. Self motivated and willingness to take up initiative.

Questions:
Are the above skills in demand in Canada and is it easy to find employers for these skills?
Based on my above skills is it possible for me to find a employer and get a work permit?
After finding an employer / job offer how long does it take to get the Work Permit ... from Bangalore ?
Can someone provide me local recruitment agent contact details and not consultants?

Please guide me if I am on the right path towards comming to Canada.

While you look for an agent for work permit I strongly recommend you to file your immigration in meanwhile if you qualify ...

Will I not seen as a potential immigrant if i apply for immigration first before getting job / work permit ?
Also how long (~ approx) does it take to get a work permit for person travelling on IT skills ?

There’s no harm in looking like a potential immigrant, why you want to get job first (come on work permit) and later decide to settle? It’s not impossible but it is indeed tough to find work permit, still if you are interested I'll suggest, check the companies in Canada who'll be interested in your kind of work and see if they have offices in India, an internal transfer from Indian Subsidiary to Canadian is the best bet.

Apply for your immigration as Ashwani suggested and please do not pay anyone who claims to get you a job or work permit. Keep away from such fraudulent consultants.

You don't need any immigration 'consultants' or agents. I think you're smart enough to handle it on your own.
Getting a job once you come here is a whole different issue.

I will pass on a message which was passed to me 6 yrs back -

'Never ever pay anyone for processing your Visa / work permit for getting a job - if they want you they will take care of those expenses. '

Chotu I myself is not in IT YET ..But from what I hear and read the skills that you possess are quite in demand .. It is just a matter of being at right place on right time ..Being a PR inccrease your chances to get a job by 200 % . I do not know many companies who would be interested in going through the long process of work permit when skilled people are locally available .
If you are very keen to work oveseas the best route that I see is to work for Indian companies like TCS, Stayam and infosys who keep sending their employees on projects time to time ..I personally know few people who came on project here and got settled...

You also might wanna visit suekha dot com for body shoppers in US . Do your homework properly before getting into any contract with anyone which might harm you ..

P.S: Dont be afraid of being seen as potential immigrant when you are applying for work permit . I personally belive it more matters when you are applying for visitor visa . If you have a arranged employment before you apply for immigration it accelerates your process unbelivably . But do you wanna wait till your employment is arranged ????
