I am planning to take a portable DVD player to India. Any idea abt the batteries, adaptor, etc? I see that some brands have 3.5 hrs of battery life. My concern is if I have to take other accessories for the DVD palyer.

You will find Universal Adapter, most likely. Extended Batteries can also be arranged.
You should also look into the fact that some DVDs are Region Binded. If so then North American DVD Players won't play DVDs from India. It has nothing to do with DVD Player - but still.

DVDs from India? There are (mostly) VCDs in India and many DVD players in North America will play those. Go to wal-mart and get a cheap DVD player. I bought a Duraband DVD player and it is a multi voltage DVD player that can play CDs, DVDs, WMAs, audio files, MPEG from digital camera, you name it! I bought it in Dec 2006 and my parents are still using it in India - without any converter/additional accessories. I bought it in the US (from Wal Mart) and I paid US$27.99 for it. I hope it is available in Canada too.

Hope this info helps.

So far I have not seen any DVD in India or any DVD that is manufactured in India. Whenever I buy any movie/music videos from India, they are all VCDs.
The hindi movies (DVDs) that we get here are manufactured in the US or in the UK.

I did not understand the question. If you mean to ask if the VCDs in India work on that DVD, the answer is Yes, they do.
