I heard this morning on the radio that the total turnout was abt 52.6%. In one of the Ottawa riding, there was 8% turnout. This is the % of total residents in the riding, not the eligible voters. If there are about 90,000 people in that riding, so about 8,000 (approximate) have voted.
I think both Singapore and Australia have mandatory voting system (corect me here). If that's true, why cant Canada study the concept and adopt some sort of policy like that. After all, both are democratic countries. Say u r hit with a fine of $100 per person if u dont vote. If 2-3 in a family did not vote, that's a good chunk of money to pay up.
Any thoughts?
