Ok, now listen to what happened to me when I visited India this February. After I picked up my luggage from the belt at IGI Airport, and moved on to my way out, I was stopped by a 'Hawaldar' on exit. He asked me what am I carrying in my luggage and if there's any electronics item. I told them yes, there is a shaver and an electric kettle. Actually, there was a white 'X' sign on one of my luggage that prompted him to ask this.
Now, picture this. He came nearer and said (exact words),' arey yaar kutch dedo, jeb dheeli karo aur bahar nikal jaao araam se. warna chakkron mein pad jaaogey.'. I only had $5 bill in my pocket, which I handed him over and asked 'yeh chalega'? His response - arey chalega kya daudega bhai sahab. I came out of the airport with a grin on my face, while uttering 'kutch nahin ho sakta bhaiye, kutch nahin'.
Case closed!!!
To both the above posters,
What you have described is a common thing in India, it is called "bribe"...
And this has nothing to do with the Original Poster's "STORY"....
I dont even remember ever going out of any indian airport without giving money for "chai pani", BUT NEVER HAD MY PASSPORT TORN BY ANY IMMIGRATION OFFICERS.

'Hindustani' did not pay Rs 60,000. He is just recirculating the mail,
he received.
Bribing is there, but 'Tearing the Passport' story is too much.
Full of exaggeration!!

My intention was to aware my desi brothers and sisters and not to hurt anybody's (LOVE for INDIA) feellings....
I met that guy and saw his passport's one page missing and he explained me everything. Luckly, he has got his new USA passport.
May be you might have got this news in email long back but I agree on his words.
ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE AT INDIAN AIRPORTS & CUSTOMS...
SORRY DESI'S, if I hurt somebody....

You can take an Indian out of INDIA
but you cannot take INDIA out of an Indian.
Hum Hindustani (I love this name )
