I am trying to connect my Laptop to TV
I am unable to do so.
I have S-video cable
Does all laptop have Video card or I need to buy seperately
This will be a physical Video card or just a software

When I checked Manual of laptop it says after doing connections
go to control panel & make TV conncetions enable

But I can't see any option in Control panel

Just for ur info, I have DELL laptop
If I need to download any software, what is best & from which
website I can download FREE

No, you dont need to buy any video card as the laptop will have either an integrated (mostly intel) or nvidia/Ati card. In control panel, you need to open display adapter properties (look for the Intel/nvidia/ati name). Connect tv before that, so you will see the needed option, otherwise it will be grayed out.

Also make sure to read the manual (the necessary keystrokes needed).

Let me know the exact model number, if you need more help..

Keep your TV Connected & ON.

Go to "Control Panel" ... "Display" ... The property page varies - so I dont know which page but Basically you need to Enable TV as either Secondary or Primary Display. You might have to play with Resolution for TV - Start with Lowest.

While my son does this regularly at home when we want to watch any downloaded movie or TV show, I know some of the things he does are:

1. For video, he has to press one of the function buttons - I think F4, and one could try that.

2. for audio, I have a cable (3.5mm stereo pin to RCA pins cable) which I feed into my amp and then play the sound thorugh my regular audio system. You can find this cable at places like Tiger Direct:

1. Connect the S-Video cable on both ends ( computer and TV )
or you can conect using VGA cable and / or RCA cables etc.

2. Turn on TV and Computer

For TV -

Switch the channel mode to either

- Video
- Video 1
- Video 2

this depends on your TV model and features it supports

On Computer

right click on desktop
> Go to Properties
> Go to Settings> make sure the following are set as directed ( for DELL laptop only )
- Coloe - High Color 3 bit
- Resolution - 1024 X 768 or higher

Then

'Select Display TAB or advanced tab ( based on your laptop model)

You will settings for TV only, TV and monitor, monitor only etc. select the TV and monitor and click ok

it will prompt you to confirm , say yes.

then

on your laptop
use FN ( function) + F8 ( dell laptops only)
use this two or three times as there are 3 different modes and it sets automatically

and you would see your desktop on the TV.
once you see your desktop view on the computer , you can start your video and enjoy.

Note : in some cases if you minimize the video on your desktop it will not be displayed on TV. in some computers it is not the case.

Hope this helps.

If any one is interested and want to do the same with other brand laptop or computers then
