Hello,

I applied to sponsor my wife on Sept 7, 2007 and it got approved on OCT 2nd. Permanant resident status tells me in progess and started on OCT 17 (dont know what this means). So the file is in Dehli. My wifes passport dosent have her last name changed yet and on the application I had her last name as my last name. Do we need to add my name on her passport or this is something that can be done later?

Also how long it usually takes to get a replky from Canada high commission in Dehli? Does any one know?

once she land here, she can apply for legal name change with Registrar of General, if she is going to use your lastname from now on, that would be a good idea as Health Card and Dr. Licence only update the information as per PR Card Documents. and I think PR card update information from Passport.

marriage certificate was provided in the file when I applied here in Canada,so I guess they will not ask.

I have no idea what you are talking about or want....

Whatever u have done is correct... the PR card will have ur last name as her last name, am i right..since thats what you have done and want also...

Her passport will have her last name, whats the big problem?? or do you think you are the only person whose wife has her last name in passport and uses husband's last name for all other purposes...

You can always go to the nearest passport office (in India, off course) and add your name as spousal info in her passport and her info in ur passport too... (they will write it in one of the inner pages)..so this way, there is no confusion...

IF u want ur wife to retain her last name, then u need to inform the cnadian high commission, since u submitted her application with ur last name...but, i guess, thats what u r not looking...

Btw, name change in North America is not easy, you have to live 12 months in one address, then need somebody as guaranteer, costs above 100 bucks..etc...

Even then, for a wife to adopt her husband's last name, its simple and dont need a legal name change... I dont think any where in the world will require that...ask ur mom or aunt or any married lady...

All you do here is just attach a copy of the marriage certificate. Period
