along with washing in cold water you should always use Medium heat. It prevents shrinkage and also conserves energy.
There is actually no need to iron jean, they iron themselves when you wear them.
Best thing to do is hang them properly right after the wash. The first time you wear them, there will be some creases, however as you wear them, the fabric "loosens up" to look like its ironed.
Try it out, just make sure you wear them the first time after the wash on an errand vs. the office.

Are you there?
With regards to jeans - I NEVER EVER put them in the dryer - that's a sure way for them to shrink. And I admit I do iron mine...but NEVER EVER with a crease down the middle of the leg...that is just SO wrong!

I carried some time my name as Jeans Kumar when I wore the jean everyday to my college but that was in India and stopped wearing jeans after my college days. You can wash jeans in a washer and dry in a dryer and press it properly even hand press is fine that should be done immediately after you take out from the dryer. Buy a good quality branded jean like Denim

DIO: I noticed that you wrote a thread about teeshirts from walmart.
the quality of walmart clothing isnt great. You will notice significant deterioration of the clothing withina few washings.
It pays to buy a few select peices of better quality clothing which will last you longer AND look better. Clothes from walmart DO LOOK LIKE clothes from walmart.
