Hello,
If a person lands in canada as a PR, can he/she stay out of Canada for more than 6 months without losing his/her Permanent Resident status?
Some people tell that as a permanent immigrant, the maximum a person can stay out of Canada is six months, else the PR status is in jeopardy.
Is this true?
If there is any 6 month rule like this, is there any link online where this rule can be read?

-- NOT true. You can be out of Canada for 2 years out of 5 years and still retain your PR status. See cic.gc.ca.

According to Citizenship and Immigration Canada, you may travel outside Canada after you arrive. However, you must meet certain residency obligations to maintain your status as a Permanent Resident.
You can meet these residency obligations if you spend 730 days (two (2) years) of physical presence in Canada in every five-year period.
While this means that you can spend a total of up to 3 years outside of Canada during a 5-year period, if you leave the country for an extended period of time, it is up to YOU to prove to Citizenship and Immigration Canada that you plan to continue to live in Canada.
