Now when going for a job like this, is it possible that you get a late shift?

When asked for shift preference, I say any as I do not have a choice. This is applicable only when work is available in all shifts and they ask me which shift you want to work? The smaller factories in Brampton and Mississauga work only 1 (day) or 2 shifts(day and afternoon). Evening shifts are tougher because Brampton buses run only every half hour and it is too cold outside waiting at bus stops.

Also if you brought the mandatory $14000 in settlement funds, you're not going to run out of money anytime soon as you claim (assuming you're not spending more than about 800 bucks monthly).

I brought only $9200 (that also I arranged from 2 internal sources and 1 bank loan, that is the minimum basic required for 1 person), out of that spent $600 on a computer and $650 on a short-term course which will not fetch me any job without experience(the details I do not want to discuss). My wife is to land in Canada before her visa expires and that is why I am in such a fix.

Look brother, ( i dont want to call you mazdoor pls signup with some other name)

You need to do 2 things immediately ...otherwise you will only be hurting yourself. Please dont mind my being harsh my friend

1. Please stop panicking. You are thinking too much ...you are just thinking about worst case scenarios which has brought you to this panicky stage
...and you are hurting your chances of getting a job by being like this.

its hard to explain over a message board but when you seem so distrought in your posts just imagine how others would be percieving you in person. C'mon ...we all know it is tough you are not alone... we all are with you in the same situation , even i dont know what is going to happen to me ...but things are not as bad as you make it sound ...labor jobs are are still available ... i know it is easier said than done but my friends who came in with me Jan keep getting calls from agencies everyother day if they would take another job. Labor jobs are still available in mississauaga....have you tried all the agencies? ... have you tried the numbers which biomed gave you? ...have you tried dixie-bloor ?...just last week dixie-bloor had more than 15 $7-8 jobs posted on their message baord ....please go and speak to the Counsellor there...there are 2 counsellors...Linda or Huma ...both are very helpful and they helpout people in your stage everyday. That is where they would be able to get some first hand professional help as well.

please do not despair..hope is the last thing you should give up..

2. If you are in real real dire staits go to your local YMCA, NIC and local neighbourhood help center listed at the back of your welcome pack which you got at the the time of arrival at airport.( if you have lost it , go to http://www.settlement.org)" rel="nofollow">LINK I am positive you will find some help there....ymca and united way provide accomodation at negligible cost to people in who need help. From there you can still keep doing your job search...

Believe me my friend...even tho i have never seen or met you ...i KNOW that you will get a job soon all you have to do is take control of yourself and calm down.
Call the agencies with a cool mind you will see the change ... believe me try it ..

Look forward to a success story from you my friend.

...i am in the same boat as you and i need a break as well in getting a job in Canada folks ... zara mere liye bhi koi job wob ka dhyan rakhna ..
:)

MazdoorGTA,
I'll assume you are using the ID in humour so I will not give you any grief. The only thing that I can say, from my own experience is...'this too shall pass'. Something that I used when I was in your situation...When you go for interviews for these jobs...tell them you are planning to study part-time for the next cpl of years and thats why you need a part-time job right now. This way you can appeal to your employer and employment agencies on more than one level. i.e they can help a go-getter student, someone whois ready to learn and most importantly someone who will not quit the next day because he is using a stop gap arrangement. Using this technique I had more than 3 such jobs at the same time. Just something else for you to think about.
Can you look into moving to where you have direct access to the subway? My reasons for saying so are here http://www.canadiandesi.com/read.php?TID=1209

Maybe your wife coming here is not as bad as you think. I grew closer to my better half(she wishes I were as calm and composed in real life as I am in my posts :D ) when we went through the tough times together. Besides she had a Job(even if it was in retail sales)when I did not. So it may be a good thing for you too.

Congrats on the $ spent on your computer. I had just a computer sitting on the floor of my apartment for the first year. But it did pay off big time!
Now I write this from my own home office while the kids(born here) sleep upstairs and the wife is reading posts on Cdesi on her own computer. I still have my first computer a p75mhz in my kids playroom. Dont have the heart to throw it away.

Most important ...tell yourself...this too shall pass (btw: its a line my wife uses to pep me up...something from Barbara Walters..or whatever)!

A lot of people do that.

One of my friend is currently torn between the labor job, admission to a university or payback the loans he took in his home country (from relatives).

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
