Hi,
Has anyone experienced this? There is a virus on my computer where the control of the mouse is affected - the mouse just moves around the screen on it's own, in a hap-hazard way and it's impossible to control it. I can't even get into the Start menu and I've tried fixing this before but to no avail - any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
PP

Maybe your computer is infected with spyware. Try using an anti-spyware software.
Best thing would be to format your hard disk and get the operating system and other software reinstalled. Use a software like Norton Internet Security which provides protection against virus, spyware, etc. and gives you firewall capability.
Did you try replacing your mouse?
Rgds.

Hi
Ususally some of the anti virus softwares do not let the users of the system to unistall them, as the software is built in way, that do not give permissions to the user on its folders and services.
So you can try the following method and may be you can un-install your old anti virus software.
1.
Go to the registry editor
Start > Run > in the box type - "regedit" and click OK
in the registry editor window, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
then go to SOFTARE
>and under that look for the anti virus software folder you are trying to uninstall
> select the folder
> right click on that folder and select permissions.
> check the permissions for your username
>if you do have permissions of " full control", then do add your user id to that list and assign all permissions including full control.
click ok and come out and close all windows.
Next Go to Contol Panel > Go to Administrative tools > Go to Services
and look for services of the antivirus software you want to uninstall ( there will be at least one service for that)
select that service - double click to open and then select STOP
after the service is stopped
go to add/remove programs and then un-install the software.
you should be able to do it easily this time.
OR
Try the following
some of the anti virus softwares hav their own removal tools, like Norton has.
So google with the following key words
<your anti virus software name > removal tool
and see if you come accross any such tools , if yes , download and install them
and then you should be able to remove them.
----
For the mouse issue. ( follow this after you run anti virus/spyware )
go to Device Manager ( right click on My Computer and go to Harware TAB and then under that click on Device Manager)
look for Mice and other devices
select them and from the top menu on the window
disable the device and then
do a scan for hardware changes
also update the device drivers ( for mouse )
also here is a list of anti spyware and adware ( install these two and RUN them in the following order )
1 Adware personal - http://www.lavasoft.de/ms/ad_aware_free.php
2. Spybot search and destroy - http://spywarebot.com/download2.php
It should work fine after that.
Good luck.
I strongly suggest to reformat the hard disk, if you access online bank etc
Thanks naudurivsm and quest for the tips. I'll try out what you said naudurivsm and see how it goes.

Hi,
I tried the below suggestions by naudurivsm and here is where I get stuck...the permissions part...there is one section where it wont let me change the permissions even after I click "apply" it just goes back to being unchecked. I am hopeful that once this stays unchecked I will be able to go into the control panel and uninstall the antivirus software which is called eTrust. It is very fustrating!! Anyone any ideas??
