neither of the 2, if price is not a factor. you might want to look for a receiver which has HDMI inputs & matching surround speaker system to get true HD Home Theatre experience & future compatibility/usage value.

Hi !
Thank you for your reply ... My apologies for not being clear on pricing ..What I meant is not to compare the prices of the two systems as i am getting both of them almost at the same price .. My budget is around 600 $ only ( inclusive DVD Player, woofer & speakers ) ...
Suggestions welcome ..
Ashwani

HI !
I really dont understand why you prefer Sony over yamaha system ? Is it just that sony has HDMI input ! ??Will it make a huge difference in quality? Thank you for your reply

dont have preference for Sony; it just happens to be within your budget of $600 & does have HDMI & upconverting DVD player. Panasonic/Pioneer/JVC cost around same with similar specs - aka entry level packages.

Yamaha, no doubt an excellent brand, but costs more with the above features & the ones you soft linked does not indicate to have them.

S-Video/Component Video outputs are considered out dated for current & upcoming players, hence suggested to go with HDMI. The advantage is audio/video quality & convenience - a single HDMI cable replaces all other cables you need to connect a receiver/player to a HDTV.

Cheers..

I think you are absolutely correct about HDMI .. I spoke to many of the friends after receiving your reply ..All of them have what you suggested ..
