Hi!
I have been living in Indianapolis for 3 months now. I intend to apply for Canadian Immigration. As per their process, I need to submit the Police clearance certificate at the time when I submit my application.
My questions are as follows:
1. There are a number of Indian consulates (and one embassy) in USA. Can I apply to the Indian Embassy? Or am I supposed to apply only to the particular consulate/embassy under who's jurisdiction the Indiana state falls in? (please refer http://www.immihelp.com/directory/indianconsulatesusa.html)
2. Since I have been here only for 3 months, do I need to get the PCC from USA or from India?
3. Any idea how much time would the indian consulate/embaassy at USA take to provide me the PCC?
Appreciate your help!
Thanks.

police certificate is required only if you stay in a country for more than 6 months
so u mean to say that only PCC is required from indian embassy, no fbi report/etc is required from USA, correct?
Hi, are you planning to stay longer in USA and keep the process of Canadian immigration from here. If yes then you need to go to the nearest Indian consulate and ask them to assist you in PCC. The consulate sends your papers to India (to your area's police station) and there is a wait period for 1-2 months in it.
If you are not planning to stay in USA longer and are returning back to India then PCC should be applied from India from your residence nearest police station.
If you have connections or family in India ask them to get you the certificate from India, it’s actually convenient from there...then from consulate (consulate takes time...to save time try from India via relatives or friends).
Hope this helps................Jona
Hi Jona!
You mean to say that I should get the PCC from India as well as the Indian consulate at USA?
Isnt the passport required to obtain PCC from India? I intend to stay longer at USA.
Please reply when you get the time.
Thanks a lot!
"You mean to say that I should get the PCC from India as well as the Indian consulate at USA?"
No I didn't mean that. You can obtain PCC either from India via relatives asking them to go to the nearest police station in India and apply there OR from Indian consulate. Indian consulate will take time, 1-2 months because they will also send your papers to your India police station and upon receiving the response from local police station they issue PCC. Consulate process is longer, they just intermediates for us but if you have friends or family who can do it for you ask them to go to the nearest police station and get you the certificate.
I shouldn't be saying it but in India if you bribe you get PCC faster. Consulate you cannot do anything like this and hence the wait. It’s your choice what you want to do.
Jona
to get PCC from india...should we contact the POlice authorities or the passport office or both?
also if we contact the passport office then wont they ask for my passport? In that case what should I do??
thanks a lot!!
