Dear Friends,
I am planning to land in Windsor from Detroit in coming weeks. I am still looking for a job in Toronto, so I need to return back to Detroit in 2-3 days. Here's my understanding of the process and documents to carry. Please advise if I missed any.
- Cross the border in a rental car
List of docs to carry
-CPR docs
-passport
-$1000 bank check, some cash-$500
-list of goods currently carrying
-list of goods to follow and value of those goods
-car title/registration for the cars mentioned in above list
Process
-remove i-94 from passport
-cross border
-park car, go to immigration- interview
-go to custom
-apply for SIN, health card at the same place?
Do I need to carry anything else? Also if I sincerely tell the officer that I am returning in 2-3 days as I am still looking for a job, will that create any issues?
Thanks in advance
-jak
Looks good. You will need an address in Canada - friend's will do.
Also, I never carried any cash or bank check. Just carried the US bank statements and infromed the immigration officer that I will be transfering those funds after opening a bank a/c. She accepted that.
I din't remove I-94 also. I told her that I will be moving in after couple of months with my stuff after wrapping up in US (I hadn't carried any heavy items with me) and I am just landing then and will be returning after the weekend. She was okay with that.
SIN -> Apply it at any service Canada location - again, you need an address.
OHIP (health) -> I won't worry about it. You can apply later. You need proof of address etc and there is a 90 day wait time anyways.
Best of Luck.
Thanks viggy
