Ok i will start a new thread. Maharaj let me know what are your suggestion.

Thanks

Thanks Sudesingh.I will check that but what could be the reason behind the hard drive being overheated. Could it be a virus that would have killed the hard drive or created some bad sectors in hard drive. I dont have another machine to check this may be i would buy another hard drive and check it.
Also, i forgot to mention earlier i had this stupid problem since almost 3 weeks now. Couple of days before i tried to boot up the computer started for a while everything was fine and then the display on the monitor was gone after the computer ran for about 2-3 hours. This kind of thing happend thrice in this 3 weeks so much so that i questioned the wireing in my appartment suite but the funny thing is all other electronic stuff works my televsion, modem, Stallitte receiver everything get the power from same plug. I also bought a surge protector from home depot and was very happy that the computer was running okey after i connected it through the surge protector but it went for a day like this and it was gone again.

No. I've never heard of a virus killing a hard drive. Keep in mind these are elctronics, one minute it's fine, the next it's not.

That should have been an indication that something is not right. A scan of the disk at that time would have revealed something.

You didn't mention if you hear the hard drive spin.

If you're able to read the drive on another machine, you may be able to retrieve some/all data. Depending on how valuable the data is, there are service centres around who might be able to salvage the data. Never tried them, but heard they are expensive.

Thanks!

I couldnt for 100% surely say that the hard disk is spinning since my CPU fan & Power Supply fan over writes the noise if at all if the hard drive disk would be spinning is there any other way to check the hard disk is spinning or not? I am also kind of afraid to touch the hard disk when its conncected to power plug and the cpu fan, power supply fan is running . Also, want to mention when the computer was running for brief periods previously i tried to do a live update of symantec and did a complete scan didnt reaveal anything. Yesterday i tried to hear the noise of hard disk couldnt tell if it was spinning or not. Since 2 days i am trying to turn on/off my computer when i reach home from office at some instants it boots up for few minutes till the windows Xp default screen comes and then the VGA signal is gone i dont hear the computer being shut down.

More likely Drive problem. But it could be something else as well. As suggested, you can try using the drive in some other computer and see if you can backup any of your data.

Remove all your cables off from your hard drive and switch it on. You should see some display. Wait long enough to conclude that display should have gone by now. If it still stays on - you know its drive problem.

Had a similar problem sometime ago. It was related to a bad svga card. The comp would bring me to the xp login screen then start booting up again. I pulled my hair out reinstalling xp etc until I decided to swap the svga card and all was well. Just throwing out another possibility.

Thanks for all your suggestions

Now yesterday all of a sudden my computer started working. 3 things are happening now.
When the compurter boots up its going into setup mode and its giving an option Install Windows XP and Start windows XP i have to select Start Windows XP and then it loads up the windows XP. This is happening because i tried to reinstall again Window XP CD and all of a sudden changed my mind and to leave the same operating system that was previously loaded as the CD given by my friend for Window XP didnt have Service pack 2. My computer has already Service pack 2 loaded into it.

Also after everything gets loaded i get a message

C:\windwos\system32\vtuvs.exe not loaded make sure to delete any reference in the registry file for this file.

Also some how my Synamtic Virus when the computer system booted up the icon has gone from (extreme right side where we have the clock). I still have this in my program files. Also its popping up a window (the feature you are trying to use is on CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the Synmatic anitvirus disk and click ok.

After the computer startred yesterday i run a windows malacious removing tool check dowloaded from micorsoft website.

Thanks

Now that you have it up and running, may I suggest you make a backup of all the important data, just incase it decides to go on a break again......
