Hello:

I have to bring to you the following problem that I want to resolve.

I got married in 1995 in Pakistan. It was my first and my wife’s second marriage. My wife got married before in 1993 with a US citizen and went to US as an immigrant (Green Card). She got divorced with her first husband in 1994 and came back to Pakistan (the divorce took place in the United States only according to Pakistani (and Islamic law) and I still have that divorce letter (or certificate). But according to the US law my wife is still married to her first husband.

After my marriage in 1995 in Pakistan, I applied for the Canadian Immigration and on the immigration form I mentioned that this is the first marriage for both of us which was incorrect. But I did that unintentionally and by mistake. Any ways, we came here in Canada in 1998 and ever since we are living together. We are now Canadian citizens and have got two kids.

Now, I want to correct the information in immigration and citizenship department that this is the second marriage of my wife. I do not know how I proceed and what should I do to correct that error.

Please let me know how to deal with this situation.

Thank you and best regards

You can write to immigration to rectify it but I strongly advise that you seek legal advice before proceeding. The consequence could come to you as a huge unpleasant surprise.

Good luck!

Hi Mr. Masood.

As you advised, I visited your Web site for the contact information. But you are located in Vancouver and I am in Mississauga. Do you have any branch in Toronto or nearby. If not, would you please recommend me a lawyer in Toronto GTA area.
Thank you
