We are planning to move and buy a house in Whitby. How is Whitby for family living? What are the desirable areas to buy a house there? Any recommendations for a good agent who works in Whitby area?
Thanks in advance.
I am also looking at a possiblity of exploring house in Ajax or Pickering initially i had thought of buying a house in Vaughan close to where i work but the prices are seeming to be very high for my budget.
Thanks in advance for all your feedbacks.
Greetings
Here are my random thoughts on the Durham region
The areas in North Whitby / North Oshawa / North Ajax are coming up well and have lot of new communities. Some really nice homes near the golf courses in North Whitby.
Nice affordable housing, not too far from TO but yet close to the countryside with open farms and fields with cattle and vineyards and haystacks ..ahhh
If you have considered all the aspects such as quite some travel to work locations (since it is not a central location), it should be a good investment in an upcoming location. Oshawa was slated as the fastest growing city in Canada or was it the 2nd fastest, can't recollect exactly
It is a nice place to bring up kids and good for family living
You would have to rely on Pickering or more so Scarborough and westward for desi grocery shopping.
Also it is a real suburb so you would have to rely on TO for anything close to real entertainment, but very well equipped community centers.
You cant be too "green" and would need a car, since Durham public transit unlike TTC, isnt the greatest.
Limited possibility of desi encounters
Dont know how much having a place of workship weighs in your assessment, although there are many churches in the area .. temples or mosques or other places of worship are towards Pickering
407 runs upto Brock Road in Pickering
7-9 min drive North from 401 with min. traffic would be the farthest I would consider

Hi everyone,
I work extensively in the Durham region. You can visit my website at http://www.SoldByMonica.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK and find lots of information as well as listings that are updated daily.
I've helped a fair number of people move to Ajax, Whitby - its a very affordable and competitive option to other neighborhoods in the GTA.
GO trains are the best way to get downtown. Unlike other GO lines, the lakeshore line (Union-Scarborough-Pickering-Ajax-Whitby-Oshawa) runs trains every 20 minutes during peak hours and every one hour off peak till about 2 am.
Re: entertainment, lots of options around Ajax. There are a few desi grocery stores in Ajax. A new indian chinese place (Tangerine) opened in Whitby this summer. A few other Indian dinner places in Ajax as well.
Feel free to contact me via email (Monica@SoldByMonica.ca) or phone and I'll be more than happy to share more information with you!
Thanks,
Monica
Thanks Monica

anything outside of toronto-gta proper is better for family than toronto-gta.
brooklin is a great community.
whitby has good rec facilities so your kids can get into very good hockey programs there too!
good luck on your move.
