Hello G,
Sorry to hear about the condition of your child. It is very common in Canada for an infant / toddler to have runny nose for 2 or 3 months. Many doctors give varied treatment. Ler me tell you what the (different) doctors told me over the course of 2 years in Canada
1. There is no medicine for cold. Leave it as it is. USe Saline drops.
2. Who ever prescribed / recommeneded Saline drops is a fool. Saline drops are to be used by adults only
3. Needs an anti biotic since runny nose/ cold for more than 2 weeks can turn into Pnemonia
4. Use over the counter medications like Dimatepp (Now Banned for infants)
5. Put the infant to sleep on in a car seat at all times.
6. Never put the infant on an Anti biotic.
7. Use Wet Humidifier
8. Never put vicks on the humidifier
9. Use Vicks to soothe the child (nose/ back/ front)
10. Never use vicks.
At the end of the day , I was a confused individual. But what I found the best was for the infant is "Amoxcillin" which is an anti biotic. It works only when you complete the full course. It will the only one which will give relief t othe infant. Unfortunately it can only be prescribed.
What I would suggest is that you take you car and go to all the walk - in's in the city. Maybe a walk in may have a foreign trained doctor who will prescribe the antibiotic. Otherwise we all have to learn to live with this stupid medical system. Even Sick kids does not prescribe anti biotics.
If you donot get an antibiotic, the next best way is the following
1. USe Humidifier (wet).
2. Give honey (1 teaspoon, 2 times a day)
3. Rub Vicks on the nose, chest and back
4. Let the bed (headrest) be in an elevated position to breathe properly.
Hope this helps.

Best treatment that we have experienced for last 5 years in case of cold is :
Buy a vapourizer avlbl at Shopees drug and walmart . One must buy liquid Vicks to pour into it ..Run it overnight with closed doors ..This is what is recommended for infants and kids ..See the magic overnight .
I have treated my both kids several times and it is very safe unlike rubbng vicks directly ..
Best of luck

Thanks all of you for your kind suggestions. Its good to have points and counter points to have a 'Healthy Result'.
I tried humidifier(warm mist) witha 2-3 drops of eucalyptus oil( could not go out to buy liquid vicks). Also rubbed little baby vicks on her back and her clothes instead of her nose directly.
and a few padeatric saline drops every 4-5 hours to have clear nose all the time in order to avoid cough if she breathes through mouth. Also the car seat as her bed.
All the above things i asked my doc if i cud do and he said yes ( i wish he suggested these to me in the first place and i would not have to look around for advice)
Thankfully she is getting better and her poop is getting normal instead of the sticky one. Hope she will be better soon.
Thanks once again to all of you for your concern
