thanks
rsk
When I left chennai in 2002 (and when I again visited in 2003), there were no pubs nor disco's in Chennai. There however used to be disco's every new year (only !) in many 5 star hotels in Chennai (Park sheraton in Nandhanam in particular). However one year, the police banned it as it seemed there there were people kissing around).
I would be amazed to know if there are any pubs/ disco's in Chennai even in this time of great social revolution.
Spencer Plaza at Mount road (near LIC) used to be a popular place to hang out.
Hope some recent immigrant from Chennai can give you more information.

Hi TK,
I guess there are still pubs in some of the star hotels even after 2003 although the membership is quite restricted

There are lots of new developments in Chennai and your friends at CHENNAI will guide you to a better pubs and disco clubs; if you are giving party to them. I guess two weeks vacation is very short for chilling out in Pubs, Clubs and meeting relatives and friends.

I am new
HELLO TK,
The next time you visit, take a longer vacation. There is more to see and eat,
and you can be on the liquid diet, just like the Doctor ordered. Take a look at all
of the places that cropped up overnight. It is ungullibbable. Sorry for the slurr. Pop pop flizz flizz, I am still looking for the AlkaSeltzer. I am seeing double!! Alka and Seltzer
The Government Rules and regulations restrict their operating hours. Hence
they have gotten into food business. Some have spent a tonne of money in
developing and upgrading them, hoping for favorable break. Still waiting!!...
But here are a few, worthy of note:
Bikes and Barrels: In T Nagar 'Sheraton' will merit a drink.
Platinum Dance at the Nungam Pakkam. It is O.K.
Pasha at the Park: So. so. I hear and the entry is restricted to Members.
EC 41:If you want to go for an enchanted evening with a fiancee or a date then go to this well haunted place by the teenagers. They all are DB's. It is close to VGP near Saidapet. Try near the Golden beach resort. NO ROOM. You don;t have to go to RIO to see the SAMBHA(R?)
'The spark' tops the list. It is located in Hotel Savera,
which is in Mylapore. The Music is excellent. You can also visit it in the day time also. It is a nice hangout.
Dublin: I like the chutney Dance.
This pub *** discotheque is Great, situated inside of the Park Sheraton at TTK Road.
Flame Le Club
The Flame Le Club is situated at the Le Royal Meridien hotel, which is on the
GST Road in Chennai.

Paarkalaam.

Side Note: Hey Vadivelu are we chopped liver here?!
Guys!
I guess we are getting a bit confused about :
1. Bars
2. Pubs
3. Wine shops
Bars are usually the kind of bars that you find in Toronto. A place inside the hotel (in broad terms) where you will be served drinks.
Bars existed in Chennai at all hotels since time immemorial. Bars are very costly and mostly used when bills can be paid by companies.
Pubs - are places where beer / wine/ spirits/alchohol is dispensed. The pub is a speciality restaurant where the purpose is dispensing of the above.
Wineshops- found at every corner in Chennai. Has some enclosed space but people generally drink in the open to sky enclosures. Nice liver and gall bladder fry will be available as well as mixture and pickles. The poor people and lower middle class use this the most.
I am sure that there must be some pubs now and probably located in T Nagar and in Old Mahabalipuram road. But in no way, we can compare it to the Pubs in banagalore.
Hope this helps.

Not on a racial note , but is true that non Tamils are discriminated against in TN - I find it hard to believe but curious based on hearsay .
Sorry for going off topic but if so what precautions should non Tamil take while in Chennai / elsewhere in TN . Is Hindi a big no no ?
