You new money in that account will earn 4.75% until May 2nd and then interest rate drops to 3.3% or whatever the rate is on May 2nd. If you think you can lock-in 4.75%, you need to call the bank.

I wanted to open an account with HSBC since I have some savings and they are offering 4.75% on their direct savings account.

TD is offering only about 3%.

Has anybody had any problems with HSBC.ca in terms of customer service etc.

Any other banks which are offering products. I am not interested in banking with ICICI.

Thanks,
GreatGuy

i deal with them just to get the interest rate that is as good a some GIC's.... i then just bank-to-bank transfer to CIBC accounts as needed.
i use it more as a piggy-bank than my cash bank which i use CIBC for chequing and pay bills and direct deposit payment .. HSBC then is more of a saving account for me.

HSBC is a bank which has got highest complaints on ripoffreport when compared to any other bank. It has least success ratio of complaints getting resolved. Customer service really sucks....There are over 700 complaints on this forum and many more on other forums. Not very customer friendly specially for NRI accounts. There is very poor coordination between NRI offices overseas and NRI main operations in India.

Think before using HSBC , not really worth banking with.

Hi JAM

If you had any issues which are unresolved by HSBC Bank Canada, send me the details and I will sort it out for you.

For your information, NRI services have been launched only recently in Canada. I think the link attached by you pertain to issues in the US and particularly HSBC Retail.

In addition we have a service worldwide, "Premier" which benefits customers who become eligible for it.

Feel free to PM or email me, I do not want to use this forum to give a list of all the services you as a customer can benefit from.

Best regards

Lali

Till last decade HSBC was great and reputed bank to work with. But as time passed, its quality of customer service level came down too much to the level where they have no way to bring its glory back.

I was using HSBC for past many years, but unfortunately I do not use it any more from quite some time, as it has no respect or regards even for customers who used Premier service.

Besides you can see there are many more complaints about HSBC Canada, HSBC Credit card and HSBC NRI services.

It is north really worth the business in my opinion based on level of customer service @ HSBC.

No doubt it is one of biggest bank in Europe, but now in the race of becoming one of worst customer friendly bank. It is too late to reverse my opinion after 10 yrs of banking with HSBC which came as nightmare in last few years.

All these reports have succeded in last 2 years.
Lali quality of service is same no matter it is HSBC USA or rest of world, or retail service or NRI services. Yes it does have some value in Mainland China & Hongkong for sure, but not worth while for North American business or for that matter in India too.

Umm. I'm a bit surprised by your comments on HSBC. I've worked in HSBC for many years, many years ago.

I now use them in different countries (without telling them that I'm ex HSBC) and finf their quality to be excellent. Compare the quality of internet banking, charges, services and most importantly - balance sheet strength, they win hands down. Compared with Citibank -- HSBC's charges are way lower. In respect of stability there is no comparision at all.

In case you are unhappy with HSBC, the magic is in making a complaint to the Compliance officer or the CEO. HSBC goes ballistic when a complaint is received and your problems are sorted out very very quickly.

Good luck!!!

Agree with you.
I was fan and old admirer of HSBC too till 2005, but not any more.

Its not worth banking with HSBC for common man like me. Even the most praised Premier services are run down. Moreover after reading hundreds of reviews I do not feel comfortable any more.

We get better services from TD bank and other banks who solve any problem as if they are my own family members with the kind of reasonable money I keep in my accounts. Same goes with few good banks in India, but HSBC is out of my list.

It may be good for few like you, but not for many at this time. Hope it gets better so I can reverse my opinion.
