hi mumdxbcan
when was the last time you were able to burn DVD. you can also try reinstall the burning software. as for reinstalling drive just go to Device Manager and look for DVD/CD-ROM drives. expand that and look for the drive you want to uninstall. right click on the drive will give you option to uninstall the drive. after that just reboot your system and OS should reinstall the drive.

Thanks Yanksingh

Everything was fine till last week
I was able to burn DVD as well as CD

Now only CD burn is possible
I am not sure what went wrong

I am having rewritable DVD so inorder to reuse again I formatted those DVD
While doing those may be some changes in settings I suppose.

Anyway If I can reinstall burning software, that will be great.
But how to do that, I don't have any backup

Also about reinstalling driver fro DVD/CD drive,
I can follow steps what u wrote me

I just found one CD which is driver for my CD/DVD drive as well as burning software which is Records Now!

So I should first go to Add/remove programs, remove or reinstall those two programs & the use this CD to reinstall, correct?

Thanks

yes you can uninstall the burnign software from Add/Remove programs and uninstall drive from Device Manager. do one step at a time. i mean don't just uninstall both drive and program in one shot. first uninstall burning software, reboot system and check if that makes any difference. then remove the drive from device manager and then go from there.

Hey Yanksingh

I tried everything, alas its not helping me at all
I first uninstall Recod Now! from add/remove program & resintall by using CD
( My PC is not recognising & reinstalling this program automatically even after rebooting). Anyway
It didn't work
Then I again uninstall Record Now! & DVD driver by using add/remove programs
After that I reinstall both program by using CD

No I didn't work at all

You wrote about uninstall from Device manager. Does it make any difference

May its problem with type of DVD. I have all Memorex DVD & CD
But CD still I can burn
I am thinking of changing DVD type. May I should go other like philips or some other brand. Lets see

In my DVD pack cover its says firmware upgrade requires for using DVD

Where I will get this firmware upgrade on internet. I tried google. Nothing

Just wondering type of files which I am trying to burn on DVD makes any difference. I am trying to burn DVD, most of them are movies & file type is avi.

Any chances of change in settings somewhere ( may be in Record now! or in DVD drive) regarding DVD burn disable, something like that.

Thanks

Hi there,
I had exactly same problem with my DVD write drive sometime back. I have HP PC. Since mine was under warranty with staples I took it in. I was told that drive has gone bad. They replaced it for me. I think you should look in this possibility.

ok i'm confused here, you uninstalled your drive from Add/Remove program? it has to be done from device manager.

as for the firmware you can find it on sony website, here: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNA290&upd_id=1859&os_id=7

That means what I was doing was wrong

Uninstall Recod now! from add/remove & then reinstall by using CD, I hope this is correct

Now about Uninstall CD/DVD driver, I should do from Device Manger & not from Add/Remove programs, correct

Okay I can try thats also. Just a small question after Uninstall from Device Manager i.e CD/DVD drive, I hope should be able to use installation CD in same drive

I am hoping if nothing is going to work, better get new CD/DVD writer (as suggested some one) unfortunately my PC is not under warranty

Lets see
