I work in US, But not a citizen or green card holder. Now I am planning to take a job in Canada. I am supposed to get my work permit issued at the port of entry in canada. I am planning to come to Canada and get the Work permit and temperory visa stamped. After a day or 2 go to india and come back after 2-3 weeks vacation and join the new job. Is there any requirement that I need to join work soon after Work permit and Temp Visa is stamped.
Request you to guide me. I need to plan this at the earliest.

There are two parts to this.

If you get Multiple Entry Visa, then you can travel to many other countries and RETURN back to Canada, after your first landing.
The Officer at the border, when he issues you with a temporary Visa, he might put a restriction in it. That might throw in a curve ball and stop you from leaving. I know of two cases that got stuck with a situation like that. They could not get back IN. Did not know about it till they contacted a travel agent. Then they had to get a re-entry permit that took another ten days or so. All in all it was a looong vacation.

You don't get your PR card . So, you make arrangements with your future employer, before hand, and skip the country for the duration that you both settle upon. You only get a Temporary Visitor's Visa.

Otherwise, Leave from the US and return back to US and then cross into Canada on the Work permit that you are talking about. OR ask your New employer to facilitate you with a multiple entry Visa, because you want to leave immediately after the entry on a holiday, what ever works for you both.

Now get on the blower with your contact here and see how he can help you.

Hope this helps.

Freddie.

P.S. Please note the amendment in second para.

Hi All,

I am working here in Canada since last one year. I have work permit for my current employer only, According to this I can only work with my current employer.

Now I am planning to apply for immigration. I searched on it and find that After one year completion in Canada, I am eligible to apply for immigration in Canada.

Now My question is, If CIC (citizenship and Immigration Canada) would accept my immigration application for further processing, Will I be eligible to work with any employer? Or would I need work permit further to work with another employer then my current?

Thank you very much in advance.

Regards,
amit

Hi,

Thanks for reply and information.

I got a question here. After applying for my PR to CIC (and let assume my application would accept by CIC), it will take around 2-3 years to get PR card.

So now during this period, can I work with any employer (till I would get PR card) ? or I will have to wait till my PR card to work with another employer?

Thank you very much for your response.

-Amit

-- Unlike US, your PR application is not tied to your work permit. You can change employers while your application for the PR status is in progress. You might need the new work permit for every employer, if your work permit is restricted (employer specific).
