The passport is always stamped indicating the date of entry, first time when a visa is used (i.e. by citizens of countries requiring a visa to enter Canada). They may not necessarily stamp the "allowed to remain" (validity of stay) date. In this case, the default is 6 months, as explained on the CIC website. In any case, it is always recommended to telephone the relevant agency (e.g. CIC in this case) and clarify any doubts. Make a note of the time/day you called and the person you spoke to for your reference.
