Hi,
I am kamal .I am an mechanical engineer .i wish to change my feild to IT and want to know which feild in IT is hot in canada..such as ..net,java or oracle..etc, so that i can have some basic course on those feild before comming to canada.can anyone please help me in choosing the right course..i do have knowledge on c,c++.
Kamalakannan,
Welcome to Canada.
At the offset, I wish to state that I am not an IT engineer but have very close people working in the field of IT and hence feel that I can advise you.
SAP is the hottest field these days in Canada and the US. Compared to other softwares, I would recommend Java and Dotnet.
But please remeber that in Canada, even IT jobs does not come in a platter. If you have had no experience in IT in your life, there are very good chances that you may not get an IT job in Canada (with a possible exception of SAP). Even yesterday, I met a materials engineer (Andhra) in a swimming pool in Waterloo who told me that his wife a qualified software engr. from India was working as a assembler of blackberries in the prestegious Research in Motion of Waterloo. I know of so many people in Toronto (who have changed their fields to IT in the recent past) who are without jobs.
USA may be a better option but it would take you 4 years after landing in Canada, to go to USA on a TN visa.
Is there any reason why you donot want to continue in the Mechanical field in Canada? Of course, even they have their own troubles but it is easier to find jobs in that field than in other fields of engineering (like Civil, Chemical etc...).
Where are you landing? Toronto or Calgary (Alberta). Alberta is currently very hot these days (with the oil boom).
I hope other IT engineers of this forum may help you more. You may also want to consider Testing / QA field , where there are considerable oppertunities (with moderate pay) these days.
Hope this helps.

For a new person I would suggest something evergreen like Java . Or maybe SAP ABAP .
