I work in the Automotive industry. Our restrictions are on hiring, travel and discretionary spending. We have also been asked to take a mandatory one week of unpaid leave of absence, mostly to try to offset the losses due to American Axle strike and potential GM strike. So, I am getting one week off, but no pay. Pay increases went into effect, so no stop on that.

Telecommunications and Retail (IT) No effect on my company so far. Hiring is on, projects are numerous, and atmosphere is as energetic as it can be. (Cross my fingers)
That may be the reason, I am jobless since last 4-5 monhs. One of considerably big Staffing agency said they have no Jobs right now to offer our candidates.
I think every thing will be fine in few months. lets hope for it

Our company is IT . We just had Manufacturing totally shut down and major production sent to contract manufacturer in USA and part of it to our plant in Inida. We lost 450 manufacturing and related jobs. We still have Engineering, Product Management jobs. No hiring though.

Dear friends,
I went through all the comments in this post, some where I feel telecom sector is not largely affected as long as IT oriented jobs in telcom are concerned. I am from Telecom industry too and in core area of Fraud control and Revenue Assurance for telecom which is niche in its own way. I would appreciate people from telecom in this conversation give opinion/advice for a person like me who is landing this June as PR for the first time. Specially on what to and what not to expect while searching for telcom job in Canada.
Cheers!

Hello friends,
any updates?????/ comments / inputs......
Hi guys,
My company (Bell Expressvu Call center operations..part of Telecom major Bell Canada) has already started outsourcing to various vendors spanning locations across Canada like Winnipeg (MB), Bathrust (NB), NS...internationally India & now Phillipines to cut operational costs. Our hiring is still going on, though but new recruits are not getting full hours (only 28 to 30 hrs/wk Vs 37.5 hrs).
So time has come for big guns like 'Bell' & other companies across Canada to think out of the way to sustain in these difficult times of global recession.
Anyways for me, I have already chalked out my future plans.
Hope it helps.
Cheers
