if a recruiter calls me ...
i say to him
'don't waist my time. talk fast. you got 90 seconds to tell me ..
what is the co.? what is the position? what is compensation?
and you've seen my resume .. why should i move?'
they know i mean business. i literally hang up afer 90 seconds.
if it is a good op, i usually chat a bit more.
I have had 2 similar experiences where recruiters asked me to see them in person and result was all my time n efforts in vain.
I do this now,
If you are on job and not very desperate to change you can ask the recruiter about position, job details, company, rate etc.. if those details interests you, you might consider seeing them. But always be calm, courteous and professional, you never know what you might loose by making your tone rude/harsh.
If you are without a job and desperately looking just go and see them as you are on the receiving end...if they dont turn up no problem, keep looking. If they get back and you get a job you sail thru.
i'm always lookin for the next!
'cuz i AM interested.
i will most likely not be on the other side as i have no interest in becoming a recruiter or head hunger.

happily holi day!
Hello CD's,
To further continue with this thread :
(Kindly note that this situation is applicable only when you are looking for a Non IT job and when your salary range is around $30 K a year and is applicable to high quality professional jobs outside Canada and low rates of employment jobs in Canada)
I was again contacted by a recruiter who gave me the option of 3 jobs.
Jobs A, B and C. Job C was so east of the GTA that I rejected it. Job A was just near my current office and job B was on the 404. This recruiter did not want to meet me face to face but he explained what each job was and he took my responses that I told him as to how well I fit for the job.
He arranged a telephonic interview with Job A and B (with the client). Initially the recruiter told me that Job A offers 33-35K and Job B more than that (I currently receive $30K approx).
Job A rejected me. They had to send a written text to the recruiter with the reason as to why they rejected me and the recruiter read the rejection text to me. It mentioned that :
a) The person in his current position says that he manages a team of people in drafting. In our office he would be one of the people doing drafting. So since the person says he wants to be part of a progressive position, there is actually no scope for him in the office.
The recruiter asked me my response so that he will once again retry to get that position for me. It was at this time that I once again told him that my current salary was $30K and that I needed atleast $33K or more for the job. This time the recruiter told me that the position only offered $30K (contrary to what he said before) and only that Job B offered 33-35K. So he himself told me not to pursue the job further.
Why I am telling this to CD's is to the fact that many of you would have sent tons and tons of resume's to employers, hoping for a job but not even receiving a response (atleast I did) but through a recruiter / insider / networking , you can know why they reject you and hence based on that you can correct yourselves generally. In this case, the situation with the recruiter acted as a double edged sword as he told me to "boost" up my resume and this led to me being rejected.
I am sharing this incident with the CD's not to boast of my achivement / experiences but that it would serve as a remainder about a typical process that can happen with a recruiter.
No mudslinging please....
Peace

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
I think I get the frustration. If you are "desparately" looking for a job and your current employer is so uptight about your time, then it can be tough.
But as many have said above, the recruiters aren't getting any personal kicks out of this. They are just trying to do their job. I have had some issues as well. Even though I clearly state my intentions to look for permanent oppurtunities, headhunters call me for contract oppurtunities. But I have just politely declined the invitations for interviews.
Nothing wrong in them asking you to come in for interview though. Without getting a sense as to who you are via initial face-to-face screening, there is no way they will present you to prospective employers. Doesn't matter what you think...waste of time or not. That's just the way it is!
