My Canadian PR card expires on Jan 1, 2012
The date I became canadian PR as shown on the 'COnfirmation on PR' form is May 2, 2006.
My question is
a) The five year period out of which I can stay out of Canada for two years; does that start on May 2 or when I was issued the PR card, which would be Jan 2007. I think its May 2 when I landed but please confirm if you can.
b) If I dont enter Canada by May 2, 2009 - will I be allowed to enter later (perhaps in Nov 2009) if I travel to Canada from US by car or by bus? Can someone please elaborate what happens at POE and would I have a problem there at POE or when I apply for renewal of my PR card?
c) Is there something that I can do to maintain the Candian PR while staying out of Canada - Any tricks?
Thanks much bros for all your input.
1---- your days count from May 2nd
2----yes you will have a problem as your days are not sufficient to renew the PR status
3----SORRY no tricks. Don't cheat Canada Govt.

Hi,
Just for second thoughts if your five yr period is counted from May 2 2006, then your PR will expire in May 2011 (5 yrs) and not in Jan 2012. Why I'm saying it, cause we landed in May 2007 and ours expires in May 2012, so if you are one yr behind us the expiry time for you should be May 2011.
Please double check everything before you make a decision.
Thanks...................Jona
