Hi,

We will be visiting Toronto in May to become Landed Immigrants. We want to get used to the Public Transit System in GTA. Can anybody please give us some advice regarding the same?

Thanks,

DT

Dear BioMed,

I want to know how one can find out routes, average ticket costs, schedules etc. Also, how comfortable and accesible is the Transit system? What if one lives in GTA outside Toronto Metro area? Do they still have access to the Public Transit System?

Thanks

DT

Route maps are easily available across the transit system free of cost. In Toronto cash ticket price is C$ 2.25 for unlimited travel in one direction. If you buy set of 10 tickets that would be cheaper.

Access to the transit is depends upon your place of stay but most of the GTA is well connected by the transit system.

Whole GTA is interconnected by the transit system of different cities such as Mississauga, Brampton, Vaghun, Markham, Etc. Some routes of all transit systems serve other cities too ( to travel on these routes you may have to pay extra money). Best example for such connectivity is Malton in Mississauga. This community is served by Toronto, Mississauga and Brampton Transit, it means you can travel from Toronto to Malton by Toronto Transit and take Mississuag or Brampton transit to travel further in Mississuga or Brampton.

Toronto has subway trains that have good frequency.

I personally feel that Mississauga transit is somewhat better than Brampton in terms of frequency of buses.

Bus system:
On weekdays and rush hours public transit is good.

If you take example of route number 18 of Brampton, there is one bus every 10 minutes between 6 AM and 9 AM and 2:30 to 5.50 PM. In between the bus frequency decreases to every 20-30 minutes.
Most bus routes in Brampton are like that.

Most buses in Brampton run every 30-40 minutes on weekends. Sometimes when I travel on weekends in Brampton buses, there are only 1-2 passengers on board on weekends. Can't blame them for running buses every 40 minutes on weekends!
